Vampire Diaries - Small Screen Review

Vampire Diaries - Small Screen Review

Episodes 5 Review - "The Reckoning"

Caroline is determined to see that Elena, Bonnie, Matt and Tyler all enjoy a traditional Senior Prank Night before the school year begins at Mystic Falls High School. But when Klaus and his sister Rebecca show up things turn for the worse. Capturing Tyler, knocking out Caroline, and finding that Elena is alive in well. Klaus then begins the process of turning Tyler into a hybrid. Giving Bonnie and Matt a short time to find out a way to save Tyler by either breaking Klaus’s curse or contacting the ancient witch.

Stefan shows up only to be compelled by Klaus to attack and kill Elena within twenty minutes, unless Bonnie does what he wants. Matt feels odd and wonders about his sister, who seems to be trying to contact him. Later he gets a message from her and attempts a way to see and talk to her. Matt contacts Bonnie to come save him. He drowns himself in order to die and speak to his sister. It works and she is able to tell him a message from the witch. Once he comes back he tells Bonnie that Klaus needs to kill Elena to break the curse. What we all ready know. But Klaus wonders about something.

A bit before that we see Stefan fighting his urges to kill Elena and soon finds that he is able to resist him, but not so well. But Klaus seems to have broken him and now Stefan is fully the Ripper. Now back to Klaus and Elena. He takes her blood and forces Tyler to drink it as an experiment. It works and Tyler becomes a full hybrid. Seems the witch was trying to trick Klaus into killing Elena and not being able to fully break the curse, but since he did the opposite, Klaus now has the key to create a full army of hybrids. Elena’s blood.

Meanwhile Katherine and Damon along with a kidnapped Jeremy are driving away looking for a way to get leverage on Klaus. They use Jeremy’s powers to contact the dead. They all find out that they need to awaken Michael a vampire-vampire hunter. Who is extremely dangerous. Damon then leaves to find Elena. He confronts Klaus and before being killed he tells him that they found Michael. He leaves along with a supply of Elena’s blood. Damon saves Elena. And shockingly we see that Stefan was left behind to watch over her. But this is the new Ripper version.

We end with Elizabeth and Jeremy opening the crypt with Michael awaking. Also it was very nice to see Matt used more this episode and also giving him a bit of a power too like Jeremy. I also enjoyed seeing all the secondary characters used more than the main cast for once. But I wonder how Matt will handle this power and how Tyler is going to be as a hybrid. And what will happen with Jeremy and Elizabeth.
