The Spot News: Wolverine 2 director news

Spot News : Wolverine 2 director news

WOLVERINE 2:
The story of Logan going off to Japan has collected some interest from directors. A lot of this has to do with the fact that Hugh Jackman has been courting some directors for the project. They say that ultimately the decision of the helmer comes down to Jackman. Last we heard, David Slade was the forerunner for the film. But in a rather cool twist, Jackman has also been in discussion with his former director on The Fountain, Darren Aronofsky. Will it be Slade or Aronofsky? Only time can tell. Robert Schwentke (RED) was at one time circling the film, but decided against it.

Batman: Under the Red Hood DVD Review

Batman: Under the Red Hood DVD Review

By Jose

Plot:

While a new foe who uses The Joker's old alias wreaks havoc among Gotham City's organized crime, Batman finds him disturbingly familiar.

Review:

Batman faces his ultimate challenge as the mysterious Red Hood takes Gotham City by firestorm. One part vigilante, one part criminal kingpin, Red Hood begins cleaning up Gotham with the efficiency of Batman, but without following the same ethical code. Killing is an option. And when the Joker falls in the balance between the two, hard truths are revealed and old wounds are reopened.

Those familiar with the comic books will know enjoy the opening scenes with an animated depiction of Joker killing the second Robin, Jason Todd. Although I had some problems with the movie overall, I still really enjoyed Under the Red Hood. We have great appearances from Amazo, Riddler in a flashback, Black Mask, Nightwing, and Ra’s Al Ghul. The voice actors chosen did a good job especially since they went with non-obvious choices. Like Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamil, Batman and Joker respectively. Speaking of Joker, man do we get a great version of him here. Basically he is a shoot first while laughing then crack a joke after everyone is dead. They really made him into a deranged psychopath who spewed and infected with his dark comedy instead of a killer comedian. Again lived seeing Nightwing involved and helping out Batman. Black Mask looked menacing and dangerous. It was top notch. The animation itself was great and reminded me of the old Batman the animated series. So with that said my problem overall was the restraint of blood use and language. Yes it is DC/WB and normally they censor out many things but with such a dark story it really needed it. The Joker beating Jason Todd in the beginning with a crowbar was lacking and looked really off due to not showing proper blood and bruising. After the beating he looked just like he did when they started. The same when a little bit later when the bomb goes off and see that Jason was killed yet looked unharmed. Now I am not asking for gore and cursing every two seconds. Just it needed to be used to help deliver the impact and carry what story you are telling.

Final Thoughts:

Not sure why I waited so long to watch this because I really did enjoy this. If you want to see a great animated Batman film based on the comics then don’t hesitate to watch Batman: Under The Red Hood.

DVD Releases August 31st

The one thing missing from The Movie Spot that I've wanted to add now for a little while is DVD releases and DVD news. Finally, we will be reporting news on DVD release dates. A weekly report on what is coming out for both DVD and Blu-ray on both shows and movies alike.

So I would like to present to you, the DVD releases for August 31st:
Bold indicates DVD is also available in Blu-ray

  • Why Did I Get Married Too?
  • Marmaduke
  • Harry Brown
  • Red Riding Trilogy
  • Evil Dead
  • House(Season 6)
  • Sons of Anarchy (Season 2)
  • Vampire Diaries (Season 1)
  • Brothers & Sisters (Season 4)
  • The Middle (Season 1)
  • Parenthood (Season 1)
  • FlashForward(Whole Series)
  • Thriller(Whole Series)
  • Dead Eyes Open
  • UFC 115
  • NCIS: Los Angeles (Season 1)
  • The Best of Soul Train
Lots of TV shows are making their DVD debut, more than likely at this time because the fall season of shows is starting soon. Shows like Vampire Diaries and Sons of Anarchy have new seasons coming up in a few weeks, so what better time to come out with the prior season then now?

Also, for the Tyler Perry fans, Why Did I Get Married Too is out today. Although I really only like the Madea films, i'm sure this movie is just as credible and something fans will enjoy.

Finally, though Marmaduke probably didn't sit well with people other than kids, it can serve as a good childrens movie so that may be worth a rent or buy just to keep your kid(s) occupied. See, there is a movie for every type of movie watcher!

The Spot News: Fantasic Four Reboot castings

The Spot News: Fantastic Four reboot
By Jose

FANTASTIC FOUR CASTING NEWS:
According to Comic Book Movie, there’s news on casting for Dr. Doom and The Thing’s voice and some talk of just who it is. Stephen Moyer (True Blood) could be the new Dr. Doom. The proposed casting for Benjamin Grim could be Bruce Willis. Even if cast, Willis won’t be having to slap on the prosthetics since the new Thing is going to be an all-CG creation. While Screenrant see Kiefer Sutherland in the runing too.
The hit list of directors: Harry Potter‘s David Yates, The A-Team‘s Joe Carnahan, and Ninja Assassin‘s James McTeigue. The reported plan is to shoot in 3D in the spring and release in Summer 2012.

Weekend Box Office Numbers 8/27-8/29

With a weekend seemingly filled with crap movies, it looked like the box office wasn't going to look good this week. For the most part, that statement is true.

Here is this past weekends box office numbers:

1. The Last Exorcism $21.3 Million
2. Takers $21 Million
3. The Expendables $9.5 Million
4. Eat, Pray, Love $7 Million
5. The Other Guys $6.6 Million
6. Vampires Suck $5.3 Million
7. Inception $5.1 Million
8. Nanny McPhee Returns $4.7 Million
9. The Switch $4.6 Million
10. Piranha 3D $4.3 Million

So The  Last Exorcism beats out Takers for the top spot in the box office this week....can't you feel the excitement?

I'm more surprised that Inception is still in the top 10 after about 6 weeks since it's release. On the down side, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World got bounced out of the top 10 and is seemingly a bust at the box office.

What does next weekend hold for the box office? Well with movies like Machete, The American and Going The Distance, I have a feeling the top 2 movies this week could be bounced out of the top 5. For movie goers everywhere, lets hope i'm right.

The Spot News: Altitude

The Spot News: Altitude trailer and poster

By Jose

After a mysterious malfunction sends their small plane climbing out of control, a rookie pilot and her four teenage friends find themselves trapped in a deadly showdown with a supernatural force.
I heard about this movie a few months ago and thought it sounded pretty cool. Now I finally saw a trailer for it and I really want to see this. Especially since I'm a fan of the director, Kaare Andrews. The thing is I know him for his comic book work and this the first time that I heard he has done written and directed films.

The Spot News : Locke & Key to the small screen

If current reports are true, Stephen Spielberg may be opening the door to bring IDW's "Locke & Key" series to the small screen very soon.

By Jose
The comic series by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez has been a hot property at IDW nearly since its first issue was published in 2007, and now with three full mini series under its belt, "Locke & Key" may be headed to television. Talks are underway for Spielberg to executive produce the new TV drama via his Dreamworks TV brand with "Transformers" and "Fringe" writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci to write along with Josh Friedman.
"Locke & Key," which follows the story of three children who care for a spooky New England mansion whose series of doors takes them to other worlds or gives them mysterious powers, was previously optioned by Dimension Films who lost the rights to Dreamworks in February of this year. The comic's fourth mini series (the first of its "second act") titled "Keys To The Kingdom" recently hit comic shops.

Funny that I was talking about how I would love to see this series made into a television show with Robert this weekend and now I read this article today. I hope that they do justice to the Locke & Key series. Locke & Key has been my favorite non Marvel non DC Comics series that I read and deserving of being made into a feature show. If any of our readers enjoy good supernatural books, I highly recommend the Locke & Key series.

The Spot News: PORCO ROSSO!

Hayao Miyazaki is planning a sequel!

By Jose

Hayao Miyazaki is planning to make a sequel to one of his famous works. But it is not from his most recent movies like Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, and most recently Ponyo.

Miyazaki-San is planning to create a sequel to
Porco Rosso. The first one came out around 1992 and is about fighter pilot in WWI that has a pig face and his adventures. The second part is planned to take place during the Spanish Civil War.

Personally I like his animated movies and hold a place for Howl's Moving Castle. Plus considering that Miyazaki-San is the Japanese Disney, regardless of a sequel, he makes top notch animated offerings. So can't wait to see this one.

The Spot News: Fantastic Four Reboot, possible casting news.

We all remember the last two Fantastic Four movies right? Well for those who don't, and you have every right not to remember or know anything about them, a reboot of the movie is on the way.

In a way, it only made sense for Fantastic Four to be rebooted. The first one, a good effort, didn't really throw itself out there. The sequel only made matters worse. Maybe the casting was wrong, maybe the story was wrong, maybe making Galactus a cloud was wrong.....anyway. Nonetheless a reboot is coming and there is some rumored casting.

Previously played by Ioan Gruffudd, Mr. Fantasic/Reed Richards could be played by either Adrien Brody(Predators) or Johnathan Rhys Meyers(From Paris With Love). Now I thought Gruffudd played the part pretty well, it is a reboot so he goes out the window. Personally, I can't see Brody playing Reed Richards. Yes, Brody can play the smart man and has the ability to thrown down in action scenes, I just don't think he has the look. When it comes to comic book movies, these actors and actresses have got to have the look, these characters have been drawn for years! Johnathan Rhys Meyers on the other hand, has the look and can play the smart guy and pull off good action scenes, maybe not like Brody can but he is still capable.

Here's to Fox getting the first family of Marvel right!

Weekend Box Office Numbers August 20-22

With movies like Vampires Suck, The Lottery Ticket, Piranha 3D, Nanny McPhee Returns and The Switch, the #1 movie from last week was bound to be knocked off the top spot right? Wrong!

Let's take a look at the Box Office Numbers for this weekend:

1. The Expendables $16.5 Million
2. Vampires Suck $12.2 Million
3. Eat, Pray, Love $12 Million
4. The Lottery Ticket $11.1 Million
5. The Other Guys $10.1 Million
6. Piranha 3D $10 Million
7. Nanny McPhee Returns $8.3 Million
8. The Switch $8.1 Million
9. Inception $7.7 Million
10. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World $5 Million

Not a ton of money making here, at least in comparison to other weeks. Making millions of anything is still pretty good.

Glad to see both The Other Guys and Inception still making money because they definitely both deserve it. On the other hand, Scott Pilgrim went down considerable from last week and in total has made and underwhelming $20.7 Million. Sad to see because it was a tremendous movie.

Funny to see Vampires Suck at the number 2 spot, probably held back from being number 1 thanks to all the twilight fans boycotting the movie. Dammit.

Next week seems like another slow week so movies like The Expendables and maybe even Piranha 3D may manage to stay within the top 5. Honestly the next 5 weeks look pretty slow but money will be made!

The Spot News: 1st part of Harry Potter 7 ends where?

The Spot News
By Jose

Harry Potter film finally gets a confirmed split.

The next and last two Harry Potter films, Deathly Hallows, will be split at the point where Voldermort gets a hold of the elder wand (chapter 24 or so). Leaving the second movie to be the Hogwarts fight and the end of the book. Hopefully they extend the fight because I don’t remember it lasting too long in the book itself.

The Expendables Review

By: Robert Acosta

Cast:
Sylvester Stallone as Barney Ross
Jason Statham as Lee Christmas
Jet Li as Ying Yang
Eric Roberts as James Munroe

Plot: An elite team of mercenaries take a mission in South America that turns out to be more difficult to take care of then originally planned.

Review: From the moment The Expendables was announced and the intentions of the movie were clear, I expected just an all out bloodbath, heads rolling and tons of explosions. For the most part, that is exactly what happened.

For me, this movie was all about expectations of the audience. If you saw the trailer, read about the cast and expected a great story with good character development, don't even waste your time and money. The Expendables is just a full out battle for the most part with breaks in the action just to either explain situations or give tiny bits of the story.

What can I say about the action? It's damn good! Explosions left and right, blood everywhere, death is in the air. Jason Statham and Jet Li were the bad asses of the bunch which is pretty predictable. Statham was wielding knifes and the way he killed his victims gave the movie some of the best action scenes. Jet Li is an obvious bad ass with his fighting style, very quick and powerful.

The casting was pretty spot on. Gather some of the best action stars of the last 25 years, put them in a movie together and have an all out war. Everyone seemed to play their part perfectly. Stallone was the veteran and leader of the group. Li and Statham were the fighters of the group. Terry Crews and Randy Couture carry the big guns and throw in some witty remarks every now and then. It works out pretty well.

The run time for the movie is supossedly at 1 hour and 43 minutes but I can say, I don't think it was that long at all. The trailers run for a little while in front of the movie and for some reason, the movie felt like 1 hour and 20 minutes. That could be just me. Action just seems to speed things up.

Throw in Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger with little cameos, Eric Roberts and Stone Cold Steve Austin as the villains of the movie and overall, The Expendables is one hell of a time at the movies. Just don't ruin the fun by expecting The Expendables to be anymore then it is, a full out action movie.

The Spot News: Weekend Box Office Numbers

With the start of every weekend comes a couple of new movies looking to impress audiences and even more so, make money. At the end of every weekend, the numbers are all processed and put out there so that new movies can see what they made over the weekend and older movies can see if they're still making anything. You know the drill. Here are the box office numbers from the weekend of August 13 to August 15:

1. The Expendables- $35 Million
2. Eat, Pray, Love- $23.7 Million
3. The Other Guys-$18 Million
4. Inception-$11 Million
5. Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World-$10.5 Million
6. Despicable Me-$6.8 Million
7. Step Up 3D- $6.6 Million
8. Salt-$6.4 Million
9. Dinner For Schmucks-$6.3 Million
10. Cats and Dogs-$ 4.1 Million

It's not surprising that The Expendables is at number one this week and completely demolished Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World at the box office. I loved both movies(expect reviews for both this week) but it was pretty obvious that people were going to see the high action movie over comic book like action movie.

What does annoy me a bit is how poorly Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World did. The rumored budget for the movie is anywhere between $60-$90 million dollars. So $10.5 million in the opening weekend isn't good. At all. Lets hope for good DVD sales!

I'm glad movies like Inception and Despicable Me are both still making money, definitely great movies that deserve it.

As for next week, maybe even the week after that, the box office numbers may look strikingly similar. With movies like Piranha 3D, Vampires Suck, Nanny McPhee Returns among other busts, the movies in the top 10 now, should be making money for a couple more weeks.

The Spot News
By Jose

Some quick news . THE AVENGERS has officially announced its start date. The film will start shooting in February 2011, around six months from now, and fifteen months ahead of its May 4, 2012 release date.

I hope that gives Captain America enough time to finish filming before Chris Evans shifts to The Avengers. Or will they hold off on the Captain America parts until Evans is done with the other film?

Predators 2010 Review

Predators 2010

By Jose

Plot:
From the hot jungles to the concrete jungles. The perfect prey versus the perfect hunter.

Review:
Predators is the official third movie involving the creatures known simply as Predator. Now yes there has been two recent movies with this creature, Alien VS Predator and Alien VS Predator: Requiem, but regardless of how bad they were they are not true squeals to the first two Predator movies and the many Alien movies. They were stand alone failures putting both franchises in jeopardy. Then here comes Robert Rodriguez and Nimrod Antel. What they created seems to be quite possibly a great entry to the franchise. We have a group of earths greatest killers thrown together on a planet to be the prey to the best hunters in the galaxy. Yes many will say it feels too much like the first one. But that is what this movie needed. The first saw a Predator hunting soldiers in a jungle on earth. Then we had a predator hunting humans in a city on earth. Now we have a group of predators hunting a group of humans on their turf not ours.

Right from the start we find ourselves free falling with one of our victims Royce (Adrien Brody). Thankfully his chute releases and he lands in a jungle. Along with finding others who landed not too long before and after, although firing at someone with a mini-gun first before asking questions seems a bit much (in a good way). So here we have our main cast of prey. All badass people with either military, mercenary, or all around evil backgrounds. Some more obvious than others. Looking at you Topher Grace. But here is where the movie suffers a bit. We get this group walking and somewhat talking in a jungle trying to find out where they are. Soon finding a clearing and seeing that they are not exactly on familiar grounds. After a death or two by traps and misdirection from the Predators we actually get some physical baddies for our group of misfits to mess with. Although dog like beasts with long thorn protrusions and sharp ass teeth that can take a few bullets without dropping is something I did not expect to see at first. But man were they cool and deadly.

Then the movies starts to slow down again until we find the group meeting a predator that looks like a regular predator from the first movie tied up at a campsite. Soon after we meet the other predators who are not too happy about them being there. A fire fight starts and ends soon after. Leaving the group with knowledge of what they are facing and a couple people lighter. But now they group together to find a way to kill the three predators and find a way off the planet.

On to the predators themselves. There are three distinct hunter predators and one classic predator in the movie. The three main ones each have a different look and skill set. The Tracker predator has the tusks on the helmet controls the pred-dogs and seems to be the one who actually tracks the group. The Falconer predator has the eagle looking mask has a bird like shoulder mounted robot that disconnects and flies around. Then the main Berserker predator with the bone jaw on the mask is the main baddie of the group. With red markings and colors seems to be the alpha of the group and the fighter as well. The Berserker is the only one of the three that we see unmasked and wow does he look badass. The design of this predator is just great and well done. It is obviously different from what we have seen before while keeping the classic predator features. Which helps to suggest and agrees with what was said in the movie that there are different “races” or clans of predators. That don’t like each other. That is why we see a classic looking predator tied up at the camp.

The action is well done and entertaining. Especially at the end where we get a great predator vs. predator fight between Berserker and Classic and then Royce vs. Berserker fight. Earlier we get a cool kendo sword fight between the Yakuza guy and the Falconer predator which was short and sweet. But overall the action was top notch and enjoyable to watch on screen. The ending is badass too. I normally don’t like to reveal endings of movies, but we end where we began. With a new bunch of parachutes floating in the air toward the jungle. Setting up a another movie.

Final Thoughts:

Predators brought back what the franchise needed with a “back to basics” tone that worked. Yes many people said it was too similar to the first one. Yeah in the sense that you have humans vs. predators in a jungle. But there are more predators and the jungle is on there planet and we are introduced to different clans of predators and that they bring in non-human prey to hunt as well. In one scene the humans meet up a bug like alien that was being hunted. Movie fact: the other alien was a nod to the original design for the predator from the first movie before it was changed to what we have now. Overall I fully enjoyed the movie and can’t wait to see if they continue the franchise with the ideas and feel of this one.

Step Up 3D Review

By: Robert Acosta

Cast:
Rick Malambri as Luke
Sharni Vinson as Natalie
Adam G. Sevani as Moose
Alyson Stoner as Camille

Plot: A group of abandoned dancers are all taken in by an inspiring film maker, Luke. Along the way, Luke finds the finishing pieces to this dance group and compete for $100,000.

Review: I gotta say, musical and dance movies are my guilty pleasure. Not to say that there is anything wrong with either styles but everyone has got their guilty pleasure. When I heard there was going to be a Step Up 3 AND in 3D, I thought this ought to be good. I was mostly mistaken.

Obviously in a dance movie the story really isn't a big part of the movie. Thing is, both Step up and Step Up to The Streets had decent stories, i'd even go as far to say that they were good. Step Up 3D on the other hand, had a horrible story. To sum up the story it basically goes like this. Luke somehow has this crazy, big house type space that he uses to give the abandoned dancers he took in space to rehearse, practice and just dance. Luke gets very close to losing this space so he must come up with the money as soon as possible. He finds two more dancers, Moose and Natalie, and finishes creating a group to compete at a world dance competition to win $100,000.

The story was just boring and I didn't really feel anything for the characters or anyone for that matter.

Of course it is a dance movie and that's where the movie redeems itself...a little bit. The dance sequences were pretty damn bad ass. The 3D was actually used! I'm excited to say that cause like 90% of the 3D movies now, don't even use the effect anymore. In Step Up 3D you have arms flailing at you, objects coming your way, the works.

Back to the dancing. The sequences were great, they'll have you going "whoa" and being pretty amazed by the moves these dancers pull off. One inparticular guy, I guess we'll call him Robot Man, was the greatest. He would come in to the sequence, do some sort of robotic move that looked just awesome and that would be it. Way to make an impact.

One more note about the dancing, and this is bad. The lead actor, Rick Malambri, can't dance! What kind of dance movie has their lead actor not dance? He'll do a couple of moves and then bam! he's gone and everyone else gets shown off. In the past we had Channing Tatum and Robert Hoffman who were actual dancers. Hell I even think Robert Hoffman is a professional dancer first, actor second. Vice versa for Channing Tatum. Rick Malambri just can't dance and it's sad.

Overall, I expected Step Up 3D to be at least alright. The dancing was tremendous, that I cannot deny. The acting and the story however, just pulled it down tremendously. I'd wait for it on DVD or even TV cause it isn't worth the price of admission.

The Spot News: Due Date Poster

By: Robert Acosta

Any comedy with Zach Galifinakis' name written on it has the chance to be one hell of a good time at the theaters. Throw in a very witty Robert Downey Jr., who throws some comedy into his action roles anyway, and toss Jamie Foxx into the mix and were looking at a great comedy right from the start.

Now I know, the movie is still a long times a way. Nonetheless, I have a feeling this could be the best comedy of the winter season..or fall season..which ever. It gets pretty cold in November.

Here is the latest poster for Due Date which is due out on November 5th:

The Other Guys Review

By: Robert Acosta

Cast:
Will Ferrell as Allen Gamble
Mark Wahlberg as Terry Hoitz
Eva Mendes as Sheila Gamble
Steve Coogan as David Ershon

Plot: Two cops who are very much unlike each other, are paired together and try to step up and become the best cops in town.

Review: I mentioned in the plot above this that the two cops(played by Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg) were very unlike each other and an odd pairing. How about the actual pairing of Ferrell and Wahlberg? Most people would think this wouldn't work in a comedy movie or in an action movie. Yet, it works on almost both accounts.

I never like movies that all the action or all the comedy in the trailer. It becomes a huge waste of time when you go to see the movie and realize that the best parts of the movie were in the trailer. That has been happening recently with a few movies like The Last Airbender, I Love You Beth Cooper and many more. The Other Guys does exactly what movies should do. Show you some funny parts of the movie in the trailer but leave the best for the actual movie.

On that note, the comedy in the The Other Guys is great. There are those quick subtle moments that are random and make you laugh to those long, stretched out jokes that are even funnier. Mark Wahlberg is actually pretty damn funny, which is unusual to say. We've seen him in all these dramatic, action type movies but he really shows that he's got a funny side. Hell, he may have been funnier than Will Ferrell in the movie. I say that because you expect Ferrell to be funny, not Wahlberg.

There is some action involved in the movie though not much. This is primarily a comedy movie with hints of action and even the action is funny. It pokes fun at some of the cliches of action movies and action scenes that always seems to happen. So don't get too excited about any over the top action.

Beyond Ferrell and Wahlberg, the cast is pretty damn good and a little stacked. The gorgeous(and that is an understatement) Eva Mendes is in the movie and definitely creates some of the more hilarious scenes in the movie along with Michael Keaton, Steve Coogan, Rob Riggle, Damon Wayans Jr. and small but still funny cameos from Samuel L. Jackson and The Rock. It's filled with people who are funny and people you wouldn't expect to be funny.

Overall, The Other Guys is the best comedy of the year for me. It hasn't been a huge year for comedies but it has been solid with movies like MacGruber and Hot Tub Time Machine. The Other Guys blew those movies out though with great, hilarious comedy.

Overall: 4.5 Out of 5

The Spot News: Batman 3 Villain News

By: Robert Acosta

The next Batman movie isn't for another year or more but it is always fun to speculate and talk about rumors. Even the really wild and out there rumors are sometimes fun to talk about or they can be wildly annoying, take your pick.

The Riddler seems to be the clear cut choice as the villain for the next Batman movie so this will be centered around him.

The interesting and maybe not so shocking thing is that director Christopher Nolan could be looking "internally" to get his Riddler. Inception was a big hit, as it should be, so why not cast one of those fine, great actors to be the Riddler? That may end up being the case.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tom Hardy are all being considered for the role.

Is this good? Give me a hell yeah! Gordon-Levitt has been a fan favorite for a role in any of the Batman movies for years now and after watching Inception, I could get behind DiCaprio or Hardy being the villain in the movie.

What do you think?

The Spot News:G.I. Joe sequel to possibly be directed by the first movies director

By: Robert Acosta

I'll be honest, I was born in the early 90's and grew up in the early 90's. When someone mentions the name "G.I. Joe" to me, I don't go into a montage of memories of watching the cartoon or playing with the action figures. Not to say that I hate him or anything like that, I'm just not enamored with him like many people from the 70's and 80's are.

Nonetheless, when I heard about the G.I. Joe moving a couple years back being released in 2009, I was a bit excited. After watching it, in horrible front row seats I might add, I can honestly say I enjoyed it. Most people didn't and those are probably the same people who grew up with him. It was a solid film in my opinion and I could see why a sequel would be on the way(It made a lot of money!).

Not too many details are available but a director has been chosen!.....apparently the same director from the first G.I. Joe movie may be back for the sequel. Shocking?

Along with that, the only cast member who seems to be a lock for the sequel is none other than Channing Tatum as Duke.

The Spot News: Devil Trailer

By: Robert Acosta

I usually don't report things about the horror genre, it's really not my thing. Unless it has anything to do with the Saw films than I usually leave that to my friend and co-worker on this blog Jose Diaz.

In a conversation me and Jose were having the other day, in an elevator ironically, he talked about this new movie called Devil. He explained that it mostly takes place in an elevator and the elevator gets stuck with 5 people in it and someone in there, is possessed? Already a bit interesting but everything gets turned upside down when he tells me the twists and turns of the trailer he saw about the movie.

So, I got immediately interested and so I share this will you as well. The trailer for Devil:

Add on to the Jennifer's Body review

Just had to share this. Have this playing in the background while reading the review

DVD Review Jennifer’s Body

By Jose

Plot:

A newly possessed cheerleader turns into a killer who specializes in offing her male classmates. Can her best friend put an end to the horror?

Review:

At the time of the release of the movie Megan Fox was the hottest “actress” and supposedly a money maker. So here she is starring as the title character of a movie that seemed built around how hot Megan Fox is. Or use to depending if you seen her recent pictures where she looks like a plastic doll. The movie was released during August-”dump month” and did not do too well. Yet I found it rather amusing and a bit of a fresh take on the horror/ horror-comedy genre.

I am not going to detail everything about Jennifer’s Body I want to get into what I felt made this movie work for me and the things that made me think twice on watching this again. The movie basically goes like this : Nerdy, reserved bookworm Needy and arrogant, conceited cheerleader Jennifer are best friends, though they share little in common. They share even less in common when Jennifer mysteriously gains an appetite for human blood after a disastrous fire at a local bar. As Needy's male classmates are steadily killed off in gruesome attacks, the young girl must uncover the truth behind her friend's transformation and find a way to stop the bloodthirsty rampage before it reaches her own boyfriend Chip.

I seriously loved the beginning when Needy (Amanda Seyfried) is in a mental hospital and she kicks one of the nurses clear across a table onto other patients. You have to see it. It is so hilarious. But forward a bit and we come to the bar scene where Low Shoulder (lead singer played by Adam Brody), a indy band form New York, plays at the local bar in Devil’s Kettle. So Jennifer makes Needy go with her to see them and then a random fire breaks out and pretty much kills the majority of the people at the bar except for the two main characters and the band which mysteriously disappears and reappears outside in the van with all there equipment and drinks. How the hell that happened I don’t know I stood trying to figure it out for a bit and realized that it was probably better to just ignore it. So Jennifer ends up with the band in there van while Needy ends up home. Then a bloodied and beaten Jennifer shows up out of the blue and acts crazy and vomit’s a thick, black goo all over the floor. So now here is when things start going crazy.

The rest of the movie we have Jennifer eating a few guys here and there one played by Kyle Gallner as Colin Gray. I have not idea why but everything I have seen this kid in be it movies or shows I like him. He just stands out in a good way. But then Jennifer has her sights on Needy’s boyfriend Chip. Now Needy is worried that he will be eaten and that she might have to end up killing her best friend. Well Jennifer does end up killing Chip and Needy has to kill her. Needy ends up fighting in middle air above Jennifer’s bed and suffers a bite. Needy ends up killing her but gets caught by Jennifer’s mother and ends up where the movie began in the mental hospital. But she is not the same. Seems that when you are bitten by a demon you can be possessed by it. So now Needy is possessed and escapes the hospital. During the credits when are treated to Needy finding and killing all the members of the band Low Shoulder. The ones who took her best friend, boyfriend, and life away from her. It was a good ending.

Final Thoughts:

Overall the movie was good. It wasn’t a great horror movie but it was a watch-able film. Yes something’s were off here and there. Dialogue was corny at times. The acting was dumb and down right amateurish. But you could look past that and enjoy it for what Jennifer’s Body was and that was something different. A risk taken to do something fresh and new. Also the song “Through the Trees” was addicting. By the end of the movie you would be singing along.

Ratings: 3 out of 5

The Spot News: New Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote shorts!

By: Robert Acosta

Is this entirely huge news? No not really but it is interesting a small thing to look forward to. In front of a trio of Warner Bros movies this year will be a roughly three minute short featuring two classic WB characters: Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote. Those movies are: Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore, Legends of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'hoole and Yogi Bear.

Of course this will be in 3D and I welcome that in this case. This is something would look pretty damn cool in 3D, unlike Clash of the Titans.

My big reason for talking about this topic isn't because there isn't much to talk about on this Monday night(there are a couple of cool topics...I guess) but because I could see something happening. Lets say these shorts get some good buzz about them and why wouldn't they since Road Runner and Wile E. are pretty entertaining characters. What if this leads to another new fad for movies? 3D caught on mighty and unnecessarily fast. Pixar pulls off these shorts before their movies quite nicely with some inspirational stories. The Pokemon movies also did the same thing with stories pertaining to the movie. Are we witnessing a fad in the making?

Well, whether we are or not, here are some pics of the Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner shorts:

August Releases/Summer winding down

With August comes a lot of things. The final month of the summer, the hottest month of the summer(usually) and the end of the summer movie season. Has it been a good one? Ehh not really. Inception and Despicable Me made the summer movie season better but there have been a lot of dissapointing movies. Nonetheless, something else that comes with this August is a little ray of hope. Here are the releases for August:

August 6
  • The Other Guys
  • Step Up 3D
  • Middle Men
  • Twelve
  • Flipped (x)
August 13
  • Eat Pray Love
  • Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
  • The Expendables
  • Tales From Earthsea (x)
August 20
  • Nanny McPhee Returns
  • Piranha 3D
  • Vampires Suck
  • Lottery Ricket
  • The Switch
August 27
  • Takers
  • Going the Distance
  • The Last Exorcism
  • Centurion (x)

Robert Acosta: July was a solid month, bringing movies like Inception and Despicable Me to the screen along with Charlie St. Cloud and Dinner for Schmucks, which im sure were fine movies. July definitely redeemed June but maybe not the whole summer movie season as a whole.

With that said, I have big hope for August. It starts with a solid first week mixed with 3 interesting movies. The Other Guys starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg looks pretty funny and I love the TV spots they've put on in the last month. I'm a good fan of Step Up, really enjoyed the first two heavily so automatically i'm excited for the 3D movie. The dance moves were already awesome in the prior movies, throw in 3D to a movie that actually would be good for 3D and we could have something here. Lastly, The Middle Men looks like an interesting film starring Luke Wilson and basically deals with the subject of porn and the internet. Sold yet?

The 2nd week of August packs a nice punch of action. Bringing the highly anticipated The Expendables to the big screen in all it's explosive glory. Do I really need to mention the cast? Just look up the best action stars of the last 20 years minus Steven Segal, Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme. Scott Pilgrim vs The World also looks like it's going to be a nice breakout hit with great comic book like action and a good story to back it up.

Then we go into the final two weeks of August and things seem to slow down a bit. Piranha 3D sure looks like it's gonna suck but looks like a cheesy good time at theaters. I'm being very humble when I say that. Vampires Suck sounds like a funny idea and a good way to shut up those damn Twilight Fans..I hope. Other than that, Takers seems like an alright movie that packs a bunch of solid B list actors together. It wants to be a good action movie and i'm sure it will be but by the time Takers is out, The Expendables will be out already for two weeks and show everyone what a real action movie should be.

Jose Diaz: So here we are in the final month of Summer, August. Known for it’s back-to-school sales, the start of college season, and “dump month”. What is that you ask? Well August is the month in where all the non-blockbuster movie get put in. Movies that studios have left over that they worried will not be money makers. So the studios “dump” them in this month to try to get something out of it. But the thing is sometimes we get some good movies that would have been lost in the shuffle otherwise. Thankfully this year we have a couple of winners.

First week we get a third and 3D entry of the Step Up series that showcases some great dancing. I actually want to check this one out considering the producer is one of the guys from So You Think You Can Dance show along with many of previous talents of said show. Also The Other Guys starring Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg. I am not too sure about this one but most likely will end up watching it. The following week though two of my must see movies come out. The Expendables and Scott Pilgrim VS The World.

The Expendables stars a good chunk of the top action stars of the 80’s and 90’s along with some wrestling and MMA talent. The movie is just going to be an action packed homage to the great action movies of those times and I can not wait to see this. Starring Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Randy Couture, Steve Austin, Terry Crews, Mickey Rourke, Eric Roberts, Dolph Lundgren, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Danny Trejo, Charisma Carpenter.

Then we have Scott Pilgrim VS The World. I’m not sure how to say what a bad ass movie this is going to turn out to be. Based on the graphic novel series by Bryan Lee O'Malley. Pilgrim (Michael Cera) a bass guitarist for totally average garage band Sex Bob-omb, the 22-year-old has just met the girl of his dreams literally. The only catch to winning Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead)? Her seven evil exes are coming to kill him. I can’t wait to see this! It’s going to be so much fun.

Vampire’s Suck will do just that. Especially since you can actually find and see this online. Hopefully this would be that last of these dumb waste of money movies. You want to see these type of movies done right? Go watch the first couple of Scary Movies and skip this shit. The rest of the month is filled with random movies that will be forgotten as soon as they are released.

Finally a guilty pleasure of mine in Piranha 3D a remake of the classic cheesy horror movie done by Alexandre Aja. Will it be good? Most likely not. Will it be fun? Yes Will it have 3D swimsuit clad girls getting eaten by monster piranhas? Hell yes!
