Hotel Transylvania

The Spot News: Hotel Transylvania Trailer

Sony Pictures Animation has released the first official trailer for director Genndy Tartakovsky’s Hotel Transylvania, which stars Adam Sandler as the voice of Dracula, a hotelier whose plans for his daughter’s 118th birthday party are thrown into turmoil by the arrival of a human.

The movie, which opens Sept. 28, also features the voices of Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, David Spade, Steve Buscemi, Kevin James, Molly Shannon and Cee Lo Green.

Welcome to the Hotel Transylvania, Dracula’s (Adam Sandler) lavish five-stake resort, where monsters and their families can live it up, free to be the monsters they are without humans to bother them. On one special weekend, Dracula has invited some of the world’s most famous monsters – Frankenstein and his bride, the Mummy, the Invisible Man, a family of werewolves, and more – to celebrate his daughter Mavis’s 118th birthday. For Drac, catering to all of these legendary monsters is no problem – but his world could come crashing down when one ordinary guy stumbles on the hotel and takes a shine to Mavis.

The Spot News: Superman's S Shield

Well here is the new S Shield for Superman and what may be the official logo for the Man Of Steel movie.

I see they are going for darker tones of the red and yellow, looks almost orange. I am not sure if the background is supposed to represent the normal blue from the suit or just a normal background for the Shield. If it is the 'blue suit" then it way to dark and gray.

Otherwise I like it. I know it is a different take on Superman, trying to go along with the new look in the comics, but the shield looks cool. It makes a statement. Now I just need to get over the no red undies thing.

Episode 17 Review - "Curse"

Cassie and Adam wake up finding dozens of dead crows in her yard. Blackwell informs them that by having sex, they've activated an old curse placed on the Conants and Blakes. Cassie goes to see her grandmother for more information. Jane says that generations ago, a seer witch placed a curse on the Conants and Blakes to prevent the two families from coming together out of jealously. If the curse is activated, a member of the circle will die.
Cassie goes to see Jake because he wasn't with the rest of the circle when she told them about the curse. He says he hasn't been feeling well. A dark vein appear on his arm indicating that the curse is affecting him.

Meanwhile, Faye goes over to Lee's house after it becomes apparent that he's missing. Eva demands that Faye help her bring Lee back to life. Faye says it's impossible and Eva threatens to kill her. Faye gives Eva fake instructions for the spell. She takes the voodoo totem from under the bed when Eva leaves the room for candles. A brief struggle ensues and Faye breaks the totem in half, rendering Eva powerless.

Blackwell finds a cure for the curse in Amelia's Book of Shadows. Cassie, Adam, and Jake go to Calvin's to collect ingredients for the elixir. The three go into the woods to collect more plants, but Jake begins to hallucinate and attacks Adam mistaking him for Calvin, the witch he killed.

Cassie and Adam drink the elixir that will cause them to forget their feelings for one another and save Jake's life. Cassie tearfully tells her father that the elixir worked only on Adam and she still remembers everything. Dawn confronts Blackwell, calling him a manipulator because she knows there is no curse; Amelia would have told her. It is revealed that he still has his dark magic and used it to kill the crows, get Jane to confirm the curse's existence and sicken Jake. He claims he did this to protect Cassie because Ethan and Amelia's relationship is what destroyed their circle.

Episode Four - "Kate Is Enough"

While investigating an alleged suicide during an upscale yacht party with Detective Vega, Detective Britten runs into Rex's former babysitter Kate (Brianna Brown). Later, in a case Britten is investigating with Bird, Kate appears again, this time as a suspect. Dr. Lee and Dr. Evans try to help him make sense of his run in with these two very different versions of the same woman.

I liked this episode. Instead of giving us two similar cases in both realities we are treated to different cases with the same main person being involved. The differences in the realities for Kate is that in one she had help to overcome the death of her sister and become successful while in the other the mother gave up on her so she became troubled and drug dependent. Britten also learns how to help and communicate with Rex. Since Rex seems to be suffering emotionally due to the loss of his mom, lashing out at his friend who broke his tennis racket, which belonged to his mom, and lashing out at his father.

Lucifer has driven Sam to the point of mental breakdown, because of which he is now committed to a mental institution. Dean promises Sam to find a cure to this illness and calls every hunter in the diary. However, no hunter is able to help him. When he gets up, and moves to get a beer, the diary is thrown onto the floor and a card falls from it, with a number of the hunter that can help him. The hunter eventually leads Dean to a faith healer named Emanuel, who fixed his injuries and encourages Dean to get in touch with him. When Dean goes to meet with Emanuel, he finds that the Demons are also interested in this healer, and are searching for him. When Dean does find Emanuel, it turns out to be Castiel, who now is living under the name Emanuel and works as a faith healer, and has no memory of his past life as an angel.

Dean convinces him to come with him to heal Sam of his mental break down. However, along the way, Meg shows up and asks to be a part of the trip. Once they reach the hospital, they find it covered by demons. Castiel banishes the demons, and along the way, gains back his memories. However, the guilt of his action makes him leave. Dean stops him and convinces him to try and save Sam. While in the hospital, Sam meets with a woman, who is haunted by the ghost of her dead brother. Her brother is stuck on Earth and cannot move to his after life. Sam asks this woman if she has any of her brother's objects. She tells him about her bracelet, which has his blood on it. Sam asks the woman to create a circle of salt. While they are in it and about to burn the bracelet, her brother shows up and is about to harm them. Sam then burns the bracelet, giving the girl freedom from her brother's ghost. However, his actions lead to him being taken for electroshock therapy where the orderly turns out to be a demon who tortures him. Castiel finds him in time to save him, but fails to heal him. He does the next best thing: Transfers Sam's madness and experience in hell, to himself. So while Sam is released, Castiel stays in the hospital plagued with the visions of Lucifer. Review:

Happy Hunger Games, and may the odds be ever in your favor!

I am a fan of the book and I have been waiting to see the movie. So I will warn you that I may come off a bit “fan boy-ish” for this review. So expect lots of love!

Also there might be spoilers so read with caution.

The Hunger Games movie transformed and projected the book wonderfully. It is a really great adaptation of a movie from a book. And before I go on yes there were some changes and differences in the movie compared to the book, but it was for the best and really made the film it’s own beast. Something to be enjoyed together.

The Hunger Games starts like the book with the day of the reaping. And quickly sends is to the capital. A city of the future. A city of obvious greed and stature. The cleansing and parading of the tributes. The training actually gets some more screen time then what was in the book while the dinners and more character building that the book gave us were really trimmed down. I don’t feel like it really effected the overall tone, yet the relationship/friendship that Katniss and Peeta build during this time in the book suffered in the movie. To some degree. They made it feel like Katniss was struggling in liking Peeta while Gale was at home watching. This is actually shown later on in the movie where Katniss and Peeta were kissing and getting more intimate and the scene cuts to Gale watching or not watching at home. Although I am on the Peeta side of this love triangle, due to reasons I can not discuss here because I don’t want to spoil anything from the books, but I guess it’s to build toward the second movie.

The games itself is really the meat of the movie. Where we see more of the Careers and their attitude toward everyone else and this need to kill off Katniss as soon as possible. Seeing what lengths that the game makers, Seneca Crane, will go for entertainment. I do like that we got to see the “Game Room”, I am calling it. Giving us a glimpse of the technology that is used in the Hunger Games that the books mention but do not describe in detail. I also liked that little sneak peak of the mutt-ations before being set loose of the remaining tributes. Although for some odd reason to me I felt the book had the end take place in the morning because I remember reading something about how the cornucopia was hot when they tried to climb it. In the movie it takes place during the night. And I fully understand the why it was done. Gives us a more ominous and scary atmosphere to the ending. And getting around the bloody carnage that the creatures caused.

It can be said that the book is a very brutal and emotional read. The movie turns that emotion and brutality up to ten! Seriously just watch the beginning of the games themselves. When Katniss goes into the tube and slowly pushed up. Seeing the cornucopia for the first time and all the other tributes around. The countdown dropping to zero. The tributes all running. The stabs, slashes, fighting, blood, tributes dropping like bloody sacks, that one younger tribute in the cornucopia getting killed brutally by Cato, Clove flinging knives at anything that moves. All this passes in a few moments yet it has you by the throat. Squeezing you so that your breathless watching what unfolds on the screen. Most of the deaths carry a very heart wrenching feel to them. Or a gasp inducing shock, especially when Cato is involved. So with all this emotions coming at you during the games, guess what happens? Yup someone shed a tear. The scene was worse to see than it was to read.

Now I want to hit on the other non-tribute characters for a bit. Haymitch actually came off better in the movie than the book. I guess because the likable Woody Harrelson was playing the drunken mentor. I did like seeing the transformation from the drunkard to the sober and hard working mentor to Peeta and Katniss sooner in the movie. And wow I did not recognize Elizabeth Banks as Effie. Especially during the reaping in the beginning. Later on when she has less makeup on you can finally see her through the character. Seneca Crane gets more screening time especially with President Snow. I honestly wish the more intimate scenes and character building parts between the traingin and the games were in the film so we could have gotten more of Cinna, Haymitch, and Effie.

Now the costumes and effects and makeup used to bring the games and the capital alive was really well done. I could makes sense as to not seeing green dyed people or heavily modded humans walking around. They kept it simple and they kept it so it would make sense and not be outrageous. The cornucopia was not what I was expecting. What was made for the movie was outstanding. Such a futuristic yet “modern” take on the classic horn. The filmmakers also kept the heavy gore out of the film. I can see why considering that the tributes are supposed to be aged between 12 and 18 years old. You Don’t want to have blood and guts flying around like a slasher movie. What was shown was done properly and with a bit of respect. Yes we see stabs and bloody flying. Some heads bashing in and nasty burns and cuts. Even some broken necks. I actually would have liked to see Cato’s death done in a similar, brutal, bloody way like the book. And that brings me to the dog like mutt-tations. I really thought we would have gotten something similar in looks to the what described in the book, but I still ended up happy with the way they turned out.

Final Thoughts:

Some things changed from the book for the movie, but for the better. The ending was changed a bit, just enough to keep us on the edge of the seats for the hopeful second movie. Hell even during a particular scene we even get a glimpse of what Katniss started, that takes place in the second book.
The Hunger Games was great. A movie that would gladly see again and again. It reminds me of the feelings I got when watching the Harry Potter films. A must see.

Episode 16 - "Out with the Old"

After a ballerina is found dead from dancing herself to death, Sam and Dean look into the case and discover the ballet slippers she wore were cursed. While collecting the slippers, Dean touches the slippers, and begins to be drawn to them, much to his embarrassment (as the slippers attracted those interested or practiced in ballet). Before the slippers take their hold, Sam and Dean find the antiques dealer who sold the slippers, and multiple empty curse boxes, as he had sold three other cursed objects.

The brothers race to retrieve the cursed objects, although they fail to save one woman, who drinks steaming water from a cursed tea kettle and kills herself. After locking away the cursed objects, the dealer reveals that his mother collected the objects (presumably being a hunter), and was recently killed in a car crash after selling her store to a realtor named Joyce, who has recently been buying up several properties in town. Getting the paranoid Frank to dig into the company and its subsidiary, Dean discovers that it is a Leviathan front.

Sam, tired from forced sleep deprivation due to Lucifer haunting him, inadvertently attracts the attention of Joyce's assistant, George, while getting a coffee. George then follows Sam to the antiques dealer. The Leviathans then set up a trap, forcing the dealer to say he touched a cursed object to lure the brothers to the store. Once there, the monsters attack the brothers. However, George, tired of Joyce's belittling behavior and reckless impatience, subtly aids Sam and Dean in beheading Joyce, gleefully planning to eat her. Due to their shock, George briefly describes to the brothers that the only real way to kill a Leviathan was to eat them (or force them to eat themselves, via 'bibbing') and that in this situation, he means them and the people of the town no harm. Sam and Dean then discover that the properties were bought to make way for a research center dedicated to curing cancer, bewildering them as to why the Leviathans would be helping humans. Heading to Frank's trailer with the cursed objects, the brothers find the trailer wrecked on the inside, with blood sprayed everywhere.

Episode 7 - "The Experiment"

Beginning where the previous episode ends, the crew discovers that there has been illegal researching and experimenting occurring at the research facility, with the inhabitants of the forest being used as test subjects. The research went wrong and turned the inhabitants and workers into cannibals who begin to stalk the crew. One of the researchers-turned-cannibal is Kurt Brynildson's former girlfriend and the reason for his secrecy is finally revealed. The crew finds "Rabbit", who abandoned Cole some months prior to the episode, and also discover a room in the facility with an unconscious Emmet Cole concealed in a cocoon. They cut him out and travel back to the ship, only to be followed by the cannibals, which results in the death of one of their crew and Emmet Cole waking up.

Episode 8 - "Row, Row, Row Your Boat"

After Lincoln is shot dead by a member of the Magus, Jahel disobeys her father and Emmet by calling upon the river's spirit for help. The Boiuna itself, the Black Snake. With the help of Tess, Jahel performs a ritual which brings Lincoln back to life. Lincoln tells the crew that Kurt shot him, when later it is revealed to be Jonas. With an evil spirit inside Lincoln, he kills Jonas. Clark discovers Jonas' body and the crew realize the truth about what is happening—the Boiuna's spirit is living inside Lincoln. Emmet asks Lena to help force the evil spirit out of his son and they perform an exorcism. When it doesn't work, Emmet asks Kurt to help, who tells him that he needs to talk to his son, not the spirit. Emmet does so, which results in the spirit leaving. The crew then tries to follow the map out of the Boiuna to a fishing village for supplies, but find that it isn't there when they arrive. Clark sends up the heli-cam to inspect the surroundings.

On a monitor, the crew sees that the river and terrain are changing, to which Lincoln explains that the Boiuna won't let them leave.

I had a feeling that this was the way they would have taken the show. Or killed everyone off. But The River was actually quite good and well done being a “found footage” type show. The supernatural elements were great and didn’t seem like the over used “ghost” types. Although the inclusion of the zombie-fied facility crew was a bit overboard, it still worked. I wonder if they will be bringing the show back or something similar.

Episodes 16 Review - "1912"

The present-day murders in Mystic Falls remind Damon of a similar crime spree a century earlier. In flashbacks to 1912, Damon recalls a beautiful vampire, named Sage (Cassidy Freeman), who showed him a whole new way to exist. Sheriff Forbes warns Damon not to get involved in her investigation of the murders, but Damon is convinced she's going after the wrong suspect who is Alaric.

Meanwhile, Elena and Matt resort to breaking and entering in their search for evidence to prove Meredith is the killer they find a hidden door in her closet with a Gilbert journal that belonged to the original Johnathan Gilbert's granddaughter. And another one of my little shout outs to Matt. Hell he even mentions in this episode why I like him, he is the only normal human character left. Plus there seems to be a bit of teasing between Elena and Matt. Maybe a possible rekindling of the relationship.

For reasons known only to her, Rebekah becomes interested in locating one of the town's oldest landmarks that involve information Stefan and Damon might have on what happened to it or where it is. Finally, Elena comes to a new understanding of the path her life has taken, and Damon makes an emotional confession to Stefan after forcing him to drink fresh human blood. Damon wants to help him control his savagery when he feeds, to help like Stefan ahs always tried to help him. I think there is also a bit of blaming himself on Stefan’s part for the way Damon is such a beast when feeding. Elena and Matt catch Damon with blood all over his mouth from feeding from a pretty girl. The episode ends with Meredith at Elena's house explaining to Alaric that he is the killer because of his Gilbert ring that lets him cheat at death as the same thing happened to the granddaughter of Jonathan Gilbert in 1912. Seems the ring causes a side effect from all the dying and reviving of going crazy.

Episode 16 Review - "Lucky"

Cassie catches Blackwell, her dad, looking for something in the abandoned house. After confiding in Adam, he tells her he knows Blackwell was looking for a device to drain witches' powers and is clearly back to his old ways. Cassie confronts him about the object. He explains it doesn't take power; it transfers it to a mortal for awhile. That is how Eben spelled Cassie and got the power to almost kill Blackwell sixteen years ago. Only a witch could have spelled it, therefore it must have been a member of the Circle who was present at the boat fire. Cassie believes it may have been Ethan.

Faye shows up at Lee's house to invite him to the school fundraiser, but is taken aback when Eva greets her at the door claiming to be Lee's girlfriend. Meanwhile, Melissa encourages Diana to date a normal guy and points her in the direction of Grant, a new, Australian guy in town. Dawn runs into Blackwell at the school, but the reunion isn't quite what she expected. Ethan stabs Blackwell as Cassie watches, not realizing who it is, and runs after him. She loses control of her dark magic and almost kills Ethan, but her father stops her.

Blackwell confronts Ethan about betraying their circle. Ethan says that Eben was only supposed to kill Blackwell. Ethan then tells him that even though he succeed in keeping him and Amelia apart, Adam and Cassie are written in the stars too. However, Blackwell warns Ethan that the relationship is cursed. Meanwhile, Adam arrives at Cassie's house. Adam tells Cassie he loves her and they have sex as crows circle over the house, thus activating the curse.

I have to say off the bat that Awake might end up being a hit. Just on the basic premise of the show and if they keep doing what they are doing throughout the season. The show is about Detective Britten (Jason Isaacs) after a car accident with his wife (Hannah - Laura Allen) and son (Rex - Dylan Minnette). Now here is the twist. The show takes place in two “realities” one where Britten’s wife Hannah lived and his son died. And the other where Rex, his son, lives and his wife died. It is differentiated by a red rubber band (wife) on Britten’s wrist or a green rubber band (son). Also the realties have a different color scheme to them. Where the red/wife reality has warm/light colors where in the green/son reality is cooler/blue colors. I really liked how they handled the differences with colors.

Some cast are also different in each reality. Red Reality has Britten’s wife, Detective Efrem Vega (Wilmer Valderrama) as Britten’s partner, and the main difference Dr Lee (BD Wong) Britten’s therapist. Who is actually quite aggressive with Britten and his confession about “living” in two realities. Where as in the Green Reality Rex is alive, Dect. Isaiah “Bird” Freeman (Steve Harris) is his partner, and Dr. Judith Evans (Cherry Jones) is the therapist who is quite nice and helpful and somewhat encourages Britten to live out both realities. Also Emma (Daniela Bodadilla) is Rex’s girlfriend and Tara (Michaela McManus) is Rex’s tennis coach and Michael Britten’s love interest. While Cole (Logan Miller) is Rex’s friend in both realities and Tricia Harper (Laura Innes) is the secretive captain in both.

What is also cool about the show is that it is still a crime drama. Britten and his partners are still fighting and solving crime. And bouncing between realities is actually assisting in his work. Sometimes finding or getting information in one reality that helps him solve the problem in the other reality.

Another thing is that I really like the way they are handling the Green Reality with Michael and his son Rex. It is not the over used angst ridden teen/parent problems. It is a nice father son trying to come to terms with their mom/wife dying. Britten trying to cook for them and being there for Rex with Tennis. I really like the second episode where we saw that Britten learns how to wash close properly by using fabric softener in the laundry for Rex and eventually learning that Rex was fixing a motorcycle with Cole instead of the beach. Really touching.

Episode One/Pilot

After a car accident, Detective Michael Britten experiences two dueling realities, one where his wife was killed and another in which his son's life was claimed. He handles a case involving a kidnapped girl in one reality while he handles a murder in another.

Episode Two - “The Little Guy”

A witness in the murder of a homeless man tells Britten and his rookie partner, Vega that a "small guy" was spotted at the scene of the crime. When that clue crosses over into the case Britten is working on in his other reality, Bird is confused by his partner's sudden interest in the height of the suspects they are investigating. Meanwhile, Britten's captain (Laura Innes) shows growing concern over his behavior.

Episode 14 - "Plucky Pennywhistle's Magic Menagerie"

Sam and Dean investigate strange happenings in a town where childhood fears are coming to life. To Sam's horror his childhood fear of clowns manifests in a very violent and traumatic way which in turn leads to Dean's childhood fear, losing his brother.

Episode 15 - "Repo Man”

Four years ago, Sam and Dean helped a woman named Nora (guest star Nicole Oliver) exorcise a demon that was systematically killing women in a small town. They managed to save the postal worker, Jeffrey (guest star Russell Sams), while vanquishing the demon. However, the return of the same M.O. of killings prompts the brothers to return to town to determine if the demon has returned. While investigating the murders, the brothers visit Jeffrey, whose life had taken a tailspin into a psych ward, though he is now in a halfway house under guardianship. Jeffrey remembers a list of women whom the demon decided to kill, and Dean leaves to find the demon's hideout, while Sam tries to keep an eye on the next victim. However, Sam starts to see Lucifer (guest star Mark Pellegrino) again and continues to mock Sam, complaining about boredom and causing terrifying illusions to get Sam to talk to him. Dean and Jeffrey end up finding the demon's old hideout, as well as Nora's son, who is being held captive. It is revealed that Jeffrey, having harbored a serial killer nature, desperately wishes to reunite with the demon who possessed him so as to continue killing and becoming even more powerful, and required Dean's blood for the power summoning spell. Sam, eventually accepting Lucifer's help, finds this out by threatening Nora, who was forced to help Jeffrey when she learned her son was kidnapped. Jeffrey is successful in summoning the demon, though it chooses to possess Nora's son, stating that it succeeded in turning Jeffrey into a killer, and Jeffrey did not need him anymore. Sam intervenes and manages to trick the demon into stepping into a Devil's trap, while Dean kills Jeffrey, who was intending to stab the demon. Nora exorcises the demon from her son and the brothers return to the motel to rest. However, Lucifer appears again, and begins to force Sam to hallucinate hellfire, stating that by letting him help Sam, Lucifer now has a much firmer grip on Sam's mind.
