Zookeeper Review

By: David Guzman
Zoo Keeper
Cast:
Kevin James as Griffin
Rosario Dawson as Kate
Leslie Bibb as Stephanie
Joe Rogan as Gale

Plot: Griffin is a heartfelt, animal loving zoo keeper who five years ago sawhis girlfriend (Kate) brake up with him while he proposed to her. But now she’s back in the picture and to show her that he can do better than being a Zoo keeper, Griffin decides to leave the Zoo to look much appealing to Kate. In fear of losing their best zoo keeper, the animals break their silence and teach Griffin how to look more appealing to his mate.

Review: Now it’s personally hard for me to review a family movie because of how predictable they are. Guy loses girl, tries to be someone he’s not, then falls for the friend that’s been by his side the whole time. If you've seen one of them, you've seen them all. But I was able to gather up my strength to not hate this movie from the start and watch it as if I really wanted to.

I think I fought off the urge to dislike this movie so much that I turned into a little kid and found myself amused of talking animals and a fat guy do pratfalls throughout the whole movie. But now coming back to reality and gathering my mental notes, I realized I failed at disliking this movie because this movie was just bad in my opinion.
Well I shouldn’t say all that bad; I did find myself chuckling at a few spots but only for a few seconds. It wasn't a gut wrench laugh that made me almost have a heart attack, it was just one of those “Ha that was a little funny” moments. Although there was a scene with an ostrich that did have me laughing hysterically but that was the only funny scene out of this whole 100 minute movie, which sucks because I like Kevin James. I’m a fan of “Kings of Queens” and liked him in “Grown Ups” but he didn’t play those more in debt, witty, funny characters, instead he played a blubbering fat guy that did a lot of comedy falls and embarrassing skits to make the kids laugh; and I’m sure it kept the kids entertained but not for long because the story lines (other than obvious reason I stated above) probably lacked to keep them attracted to the rest of the movie. Also, since when does a zookeeper have money to afford renting a horse, ride it along what seemed to be a deserted beach, hire a mariachi band that can appear out of thin air and have heart shape fireworks exploding in the distance? Apparently I’m in the wrong line of work.

Final Thoughts: Not good but not all that bad. I give this movie a 2.5. If this movie seemed less mature and more child comedy then I think I would have given it a higher score. The animals were key in this movie and should have more scenes other that the Gorilla. Portray Gail as more of a villain character other than a dumb jock. Or if they would have went more adult oriented then have Kevin James play the character that Kevin James does well and maybe a car chase scene?

Rating: 2.5 out of 5

The Spot News: Some Information On Pacific Rim

The Spot News: Some Information On Pacific Rim
Source Joblo/Arrow In The Head

Found some new casting news on Guillermo delToro's Pacific Rim movie along with some interesting news on the movie itself.
First off Rob Kazinsky is set to play a team member defending against the giant kaiju. And Willem Dafoe is in talks to play a scientist.

Here is the information on Pacific Rim:
Coming in July 12, 2013 - PACIFIC RIM expands over two worlds:

The first is an alternate version of Earth in the near future, decades after a historic date in November 2012 when the first kaiju, a towering Godzilla-like beast, emerged from a hole in the Pacific Ocean and attacked the city of Osaka, Japan. The second is "The Anteverse," another universe on the other side of that gaping portal, 5 miles below our ocean's surface.
Since the first attack, the rim has been "spitting out" a variety of gigantic monsters at an increasing rate, which then stride out of the ocean and begin destroying sea-bordering cities, like Tokyo and Los Angeles. In order to combat these monstrous, otherworldly menaces, the military developed the "Jaeger" program, which trains teams of two pilots to jointly operate massive, building-sized mechanized suits of armor and high-tech weaponry. Within the first act alone, we are given enough detailed background on the god-like Jaeger systems, its shared neural piloting system (called "pons"), and the relentless beasts. But Beacham is an absolute master at immediately establishing characters and their conflicts.
The central character is Raleigh Antrobus, 23, a skilled Jaeger pilot still wrestling emotionally with the loss of his co-pilot and biological brother, Yance, during a mission a year earlier. The ordeal has wreaked havoc on his mind spirit, leaving him with ghostly nightmares of the battle from the shared "pons" experience. After the initial setup, the damaged hero is recruited to re-join the task force in Tokyo, where pilots are in demand, and team with a fellow "leftover," 22-year-old female Japanese pilot Mako Mori. Naturally, the language barrier (among other things) presents an issue for the out-of-sync duo, meaning an even steeper learning curve for the unprecedented pairing.
Meanwhile, Felicity "Flick" Kincaid, a journalist and Yance's former fiancée, circles the globe (ours) to discover answers about this mysterious rift and the origins of its intensifying threat.

The Spot News: Man of Steel, Man of Delays

By: Robert Acosta

So, essentially, nothing has been going right for the Man of Steel lately. And by lately I mean since the end of Superman Returns 5 years ago. You've got people fighting over the rights of Superman, fans bashing the last movie that really didn't meet their expectations and the fact that it will have took almost 7 years, by the time Man of Steel comes out, to release another Superman film. None of this was really a part of the plan.

So when is Man of Steel coming out? As of this very moment, it's been pushed back to June 2013. I guess they could not handle having Batman and Superman in the same year?

Henry Cavill, the man to sport the big S on his chest for this upcoming film, loves the script and thinks that it will revive the franchise. He's put on 25 pounds in order to really play the part, so he's taking it seriously. Is anyone else?

Winnie the Pooh Review

By: Robert Acosta

Cast:
Jim Cummings as Winnie the Pooh/Tigger
Craig Ferguson as Owl
Travis Oates as Piglet
Tom Kenny as Rabbit

Plot: Winnie the Pooh, the chubby ol' bear from Hundred Acre Woods, and his gang of pals misread a note from their friend Christopher Robin, reading that he has been captured by a monster. Winnie and the gang set forth on an adventure to "save" their friend.

Review: You may be thinking to yourself: "How can a serious review be done for a movie like Winnie the Pooh?" Well my answer is, it can't be done. Or it shouldn't be done cause this movie doesn't take itself serious in any which way.

I'm going to come out with it right now and tell you, the reader, I am going to give this movie a perfect score, a 5 out of 5. You may love me for that, you may hate me but I can justify every rating I give and I will do the same for this classic movie.

Most of our memories of Winnie the Pooh come from the TV shows, the publications, the iconic figure that Winnie the Pooh is and the fact that he is part of the famous Disney clan. Now other entities/cartoons with such rich history as Winnie the Pooh make their big screen debuts without keeping in mind the legacy of the cartoon, the real integrity of the cartoon. I'm here to say that Winnie the Pooh has remembered you. Yes, you! You, the fan of the show, a fan of everything Winnie the Pooh. The formula hasn't changed. There is no CGI bear running around. He's not in Times Square. There's no 3D gimmick. It's Winnie the Pooh, the way it was meant to be seen.

I have no problem saying that watching this movie was one of the best experiences I've had as an adult. The idea of life is to try and keep yourself young at heart, even as you grow old and even in my early adult ages, I could feel that this movie is meant exactly for that. Keeping your youthfulness. At the same time, it's the perfect kids movie too. The movie is about 70 minutes long, just a tad bit over an hour. It doesn't stretch out for too long, short, sweet and to the point. So looking at it in a kids perspective, it keeps their attention and doesn't have them bored out of their mind.

It's classic Winnie the Pooh. Some funny remarks, very silly scenes, a nice soundtrack led by the beautiful Zooey Deschanel. Young and old are going to have a great time with this film, especially when you've got such serious, dramatic movies out there. It's nice to take a break from those melodramatic movies.

The rest of the cartoon world should be taking notes right now cause Winnie the Pooh just blew everyone else out of the water.

Friends with Benefits Review

By: Robert Acosta

Cast:
Justin Timberlake as Dylan
Mila Kunis as Jamie
Woody Harrelson as Tommy
Jenna Elfman as Annie

Plot: Two people coming out of separate relationships promise to keep their interaction to just sex. Over time, a relationship builds and each of them deal with feelings they never really wanted.

Review: Romantic comedies are a dime a dozen. Romantic comedies that bring together two powerhouse names in Hollywood is starting to become more of the norm. Earlier this year we had No Strings Attached bring Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman together. Essentially, they could be seen as the same movie.

I say that because most, if not all, romantic comedies are the same. The idea that a certain couple cannot be together in the beginning is brought to us and as the movie goes on the idea becomes more and more untrue, with the ending being the couple ending up together. Believe me, i've spoiled nothing for you because you know that's how it goes. It's always the in between part that ends up being the amusing part, at least for me.

Justin Timberlake's acting is getting better, not to say that it was bad, but I can see him doing more roles like this in the coming years. The relaxed, cool, somewhat goofy kind of character that comes off very likable. Mila Kunis plays the emotionally damaged woman....stop me if you've heard this one before. Woody Harrellson plays the gay co-worker of Timberlake's, providing many sexual references and some advice but overall, he provides comedy.

Emma Stone and Andy Samberg both make cameos in the film, with Stone leaving more of an impact with me, screaming a line that will stick with me for some time.

The movie is not afraid to poke fun at the cliches that come with rom-coms. While literally saying what a lot of them are and eventually playing out that cliche at some point in the film. Some may think that it's cliche to poke fun at the cliches and then play out those cliches. Some, like myself, may have found it funny to watch it all play out.

The romantic half of the phrase "romantic comedy" showed a lot more than the comedy side in this film. Not to say that I didn't laugh because there were laughs through out, spread out in the film. The sex scenes between Kunis and Timberlake end up being more funny than sexy and watching Timberlake sing "Third Eye Blind" and Kris Kross was funny. All in all though, the focus is on the romance and i'm OK with that.

Lastly, the film runs at 120 minutes, 2 hours essentially. For a rom-com, that's definitely too long and it feels like it is dragging on towards the end. 1 hour 45 minutes or a little less would have been fitting.

Overall, it is your typical romantic comedy film, but that's not to say it's a bad film. It's a good, solid film that should entertain and keep you emotionally involved.

Captain America Review

By: Robert Acosta

Cast:
Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America
Hugo Weaving as Johann Schmidt/ Red Skull
Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter
Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes

Plot: After being rejected by the military, Steve Rogers takes a chance on an experiment that ultimately turns him into the ass kicking, country defending, Captain America.

Review: With the Captain America film upon us, Marvel finishes up their 2011. More importantly, this is pretty much the last film involving an Avenger so, Avenger news will be in full swing from here on out. Now on to the review.

Captain America: The First Avenger was exactly the film it had to be. A film to bring integrity to the Captain America name, seeing as how there has not been a good Captain America film. I don't think it will be considered special to fans, but it will definitely be remarked as really good and probably the better Marvel film of the year among most. I personally preferred X-Men First Class over Captain America but that's just me.

Chris Evans is a very good Steve Rogers as we follow him from a Brooklyn native pip squeak to big, strong, ass kicking, Captain America. Evans is very natural as the Captain, even in the what could have been very awkward stages of the smaller version of Steve Rogers.

The rest of the cast is pretty strong. Hugo Weaving is the perfect Red Skull, I was convinced of it. He comes off as menacing and a big threat, though in his final battle with the Captain he didn't pose too much of a threat . But for the rest of the movie, I couldn't imagine a better Red Skull. Bucky Barnes, played by Sebastian Stan, didn't play a huge role in the film like most would come to expect so it's hard to really gauge what to say about his character. Hayley Atwell plays the love interest of the Captain and their relationship is good one to watch, even knowing how the film is going to end. The journeyman Tommy Lee Jones plays a general in the movie and provides some comic relief.

There is a great amount of action, the movie does take place during WWII and Captain America is invented for the sake of whipping some Nazi ass, so there is action galore!

One last note, stay for the credits. It's a Marvel movie. You know that something is there, and this may be the best post credits scene ever. Monday we will be posting the after credits scene, if there is a much better quality version of it.

So we wait now for The Avengers coming next year. After seeing what I saw, both the movie and after credits, i'm excited, i'm ready.

Antarctica: an extraordinary continent of awesome beauty. The shape-shifting creature, accidentally unleashed at this marooned colony, has the ability to turn itself into a perfect replica of any living being. It can look just like you or me, but inside, it remains inhuman. In the thriller “The Thing,” paranoia spreads like an epidemic among a group of researchers as they’re infected, one by one, by a mystery from another planet.

Paleontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has traveled to the desolate region for the expedition of her lifetime. Joining a Norwegian scientific team that has stumbled across an extraterrestrial ship buried in the ice, she discovers an organism that seems to have died in the crash eons ago. But it is about to wake up.

When a simple experiment frees the alien from its frozen prison, Kate must join the crew’s pilot, Carter (Joel Edgerton), to keep it from killing them off one at a time. And in this vast, intense land, a parasite that can mimic anything it touches will pit human against human as it tries to survive and flourish.

The Spot News: Comic-Con 2011 Wolverine VS Silver Samurai

Source Spinoff Online

During an appearance today at Comic-Con International to promote his robot-boxing movie Real Steel, star Hugh Jackman confirmed: “I’ll fight the Silver Samurai in it so that should be exciting. Most of the filming will take place in Japan.”

That will come as no surprise to anyone who’s read the 1982 Wolverine miniseries by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller on which the screenplay is based. In the comic, Logan battles ninjas and the politics of the Tokyo criminal underworld for the heart of his ex-lover Mariko Yashida, the daughter of a Japanese crime lord. The towering, armor-clad Silver Samurai is Mariko’s half-brother, a mutant with the ability to generate a tachyon energy field from within his body — and typically focused through his sword.

With 3:10 to Yuma director James Mangold now at the helm, replacing Darren Aronofsky, The Wolverine is set to begin production in October. Jackman suggested last month that the movie will be targeted for a fall 2012 release.

Cartoon Network confirmed in a press release that it has partnered with Angry Filmworks to develop a live-action movie adapted from the environmentally friendly ’90s superhero cartoon series Captain Planet and the Planeteers. Angry will handle the heavy lifting, with Don Murphy and Susan Montford’s company being given “exclusive rights to develop and package the property and advance it towards production.”

The environmentalist angle is obviously still a pretty strong focus, given today’s … ahem … climate. “The messages of Captain Planet are even more relevant today,” Snyder said in a statement. “We feel this team can bring the world’s first eco-hero to life in a powerful motion picture that is not only pertinent but entertaining.”

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 Review

By: Robert Acosta

Cast:
Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter
Ralph Fiennes as Voldemort
Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley
Emma Watson as Hermoine Granger

Plot: Only one can live, Harry Potter or Lord Voldemort. The fight for wizards, for magic, for all humanity comes to a screeching end when Harry and the rest of the wizard world battle Voldemort and his disciples.

Review: It's all over. By now, most of the people reading this have seen the film, or at least read the damn book, and have seen the billion dollar franchise, Harry Potter, come to an end. Did it go out with a bang or just a mere whimper?

I'll start by saying that part 1 and part 2 of the Deathly Hallows are as opposite as they can be. Part 1 was more story driven, slow paced, not a whole lot of action, really just setting up the finale. Part 2 is explosive, in your face, fast paced action. I originally was very much in favor of having 2 films just so that the story can be explained a little better, no feeling that a movie is too long and that they have to cut out stuff for lengths sake. Well, they seemingly overlooked stuff anyway. Though, I still doubt that the overlooking details problem could have been fixed if they just turned this into one long film.

You get thrown into the action pretty quickly, which is nice after you sat through a slow first part just under a year ago. The battles are pretty epic, lots of characters die, lots of characters show a brave side, get their ass kicked, kick ass, the whole nine.

In terms of story, you do pretty much get the 2nd half of the book. Lots of key details, things that will have you trying to remember back to the older books/films and things that will have you second guessing how you feel about characters. The director/producers stuck to the book really well as they have mostly done in the series.

What I didn't like, which ties into the overlooking details problem that the movie kind of has, is some deaths aren't portrayed as definitively as they were in the book. I mean, we lose some major characters here, some very adored, loved characters. Sure, the impact is there and you feel terrible as you see their motionless body on the floor. I just felt that sticking closer to the book on this one could have added a deeper impact.

There isn't much I can say without getting too repetitive. The acting is top notch, like it has been in the whole series. The action sequences are intense, epic scenes. The story is as gripping as it has ever been. Could they have turned the Deathly Hallows into one movie? Sure. Am I nitpicking a bit? You bet ya. I'm 100% satisfied with leaving Harry Potter behind and I personally hope that the series is left here, Potter fans have enjoyed the ride.
