The first Paranormal Activity film did pretty well for itself. It made a good amount of money, made a tremendous amount of profit and managed to do what most horror films are unable to do, which is scare you. Paranormal Activity 2 takes it to a whole new level.
The funny thing is, Paranormal Activity doesn't do anything new but that is what makes it work. It doesn't try to change the game and become something it's not. In fact, it follows that slow burn, building kind of horror that the first film exactly followed. What it does do is present the scares more effectively.
(SPOILER) It also connects the two films pretty well, it adds a new depth to the film when you realize that this isn't a normal sequel.
Paranormal Activity 2 is one of the stronger, and more fun times at the theater that I've had this year. I wish they would quit while they're ahead but hey, maybe the 3rd part will be on the best of 2011 list.
