American Horror Story - Small Screen/Horror Spot Review
American Horror Story - Small Screen Review
Episode Ten - "Smoldering Children"
After Larry's wife kills herself and their daughters, Margaret and Angela, Constance, Tate and Addy (Jamie Brewer) move into the house to live with Larry. On Thanksgiving, the atmosphere is tense, with Tate expressing his disgust with Larry for killing Beau. Tate also is angry at Constance for her part in this. Some time later, Tate goes to Larry’s office, douses him in gasoline and sets him on fire, then goes to his school to commit the shooting massacre seen in the episode "Piggy Piggy".
So it turns out that Tate is the one who burned Larry all along. Then he goes and turns himself in for the murder of Constance’s boy toy Travis, all because he was finally able to see his children and wife. Who tells Larry that she is not angry at Constance because she wasn’t the one who broke their marriage vows. But that is not important for this episode. No. What turns out to be the real shocker is the reveal that Violet is actually dead and now a ghost of the house. That is right. Violet is trapped in the house along with everyone other spirit. Turns out that when she attempted suicide a couple of episodes ago, Tate was not able to save her. We were only shown that Tate made her vomit up some pills and that is it. What we now learn is that she wasn’t able to survive the night constantly falling asleep before finally dying. Tate didn’t want to tell her so he hid the body in the crawl space of the house. It is heart breaking, to a degree, to see Violet trying to leave the house only to appear back in.
