ABC has bought a modern-day retelling of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic psychological thriller The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Deadline reports.

Created by Up in the Air co-writer Sheldon Turner, the contemporary Hyde centers on Grant Hyde, a hesitant emergency room doctor with a degenerative eye condition who, after undergoing an experimental treatment to improve his sight, begins to experience a bizarre side effect: When he sleeps, his id manifests as HYDE, a fearless personality who takes control where Grant cannot.

Hyde is the first sale for Turner and Jennifer Klein’s newly launched Vendetta production company in a first-look deal with ABC Studios. The duo will executive produce the series, which Deadline says is “described as an odd buddy show where the buddies happen to be the same person.”
