Editorial: Can't we just keep things hidden?

By: Robert Acosta

Remember the days when you really didn't know too much about movies going into watching them? You knew the name of the movie, the cast, and a basic plot of the movie, but nothing more. Nowadays, you go into a movie knowing the whole damn thing and you feel like you've wasted 2 hours of your life, watching something you saw coming.

So whose to blame for that?

Well, in a sense, everyone! But it starts with the most important people involved. The director, the studio, everyone involved with making the movie. You would think that they have control over who you allow around the set, around the perimeter of the set. Instead, pictures, videos of movies leak months in advance. Next in line for the blame is the media. All the media outlets we have now, especially for movies, purposely leak this information so that their site gets attention. Now, i'm not saying the Movie Spot doesn't do it (rarely) but we're following in the footsteps of everyone else. Then, they put the infamous SPOILERS BELOW DO NOT READ "sign" as if that really is going to help at all.

Last in line for the blame, and sorry to throw you under the bus but, the readers. You thrive off finding these certain news items, and then complain when you find them too when you know you could have easily avoided them by just reading the title of the article.

This rant comes off the heels of articles revealing pics and videos of The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers. Both of those movies are movies i'm tremendously looking forward to, why do they have to be spoiled? I want to go into both movies not knowing too much. I feel like little by little, all the surprises, all the greatness that could have been, will be taken out of the films.

So please, for the sake of the audience, can we please stay from spoilers.
