The Spot News: Leslie Nielsen Has Passed Away At The Age Of 84

A sad day in the world of comedy as NAKED GUN, AIRPLANE! and "Police Squad" star Leslie Nielsen died yesterday at 84 years old of complications from pneumonia. His family released a statement saying: "We are sadden by the passing of beloved actor Leslie Nielsen, probably best remembered as Lt. Frank Drebin in The Naked Gun series of pictures, but who enjoyed a more than 60-year career in motion pictures and television."
It's true that despite a late-career flourish in comedy, Nielsen was actually cast in AIRPLANE! because of his history as a serious character actor. Nielsen played the role straight and got many of the funniest and most memorable lines in the movie ("I am serious. And don't call me Shirley.")
