By: Robert Acosta

Cast:
Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America
Hugo Weaving as Johann Schmidt/ Red Skull
Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter
Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes

Plot: After being rejected by the military, Steve Rogers takes a chance on an experiment that ultimately turns him into the ass kicking, country defending, Captain America.

Review: With the Captain America film upon us, Marvel finishes up their 2011. More importantly, this is pretty much the last film involving an Avenger so, Avenger news will be in full swing from here on out. Now on to the review.

Captain America: The First Avenger was exactly the film it had to be. A film to bring integrity to the Captain America name, seeing as how there has not been a good Captain America film. I don't think it will be considered special to fans, but it will definitely be remarked as really good and probably the better Marvel film of the year among most. I personally preferred X-Men First Class over Captain America but that's just me.

Chris Evans is a very good Steve Rogers as we follow him from a Brooklyn native pip squeak to big, strong, ass kicking, Captain America. Evans is very natural as the Captain, even in the what could have been very awkward stages of the smaller version of Steve Rogers.

The rest of the cast is pretty strong. Hugo Weaving is the perfect Red Skull, I was convinced of it. He comes off as menacing and a big threat, though in his final battle with the Captain he didn't pose too much of a threat . But for the rest of the movie, I couldn't imagine a better Red Skull. Bucky Barnes, played by Sebastian Stan, didn't play a huge role in the film like most would come to expect so it's hard to really gauge what to say about his character. Hayley Atwell plays the love interest of the Captain and their relationship is good one to watch, even knowing how the film is going to end. The journeyman Tommy Lee Jones plays a general in the movie and provides some comic relief.

There is a great amount of action, the movie does take place during WWII and Captain America is invented for the sake of whipping some Nazi ass, so there is action galore!

One last note, stay for the credits. It's a Marvel movie. You know that something is there, and this may be the best post credits scene ever. Monday we will be posting the after credits scene, if there is a much better quality version of it.

So we wait now for The Avengers coming next year. After seeing what I saw, both the movie and after credits, i'm excited, i'm ready.

Rating: 4 out of 5
