The Spot News: Insidious profits, Scream plummets

By: Robert Acosta

In a way this a 2 part news post that horror fans will love and hate. Nonetheless, horror fans enjoy it for what it is.

I personally think that Scream 4 did alright for itself, the movie is a solid sequel, especially considering the long absence between part 3 and 4. Financially however, it choked. Plans for a Scream 5 and 6, for now, have been slashed. I say for now because in the field of horror, nothing ever dies that easy.

On the bright side, not really Screams bright side, Insidious has been the most profitable movie in 2011. It only took $1 Million dollars to make Insidious. It has so far raked in $45 Million dollars. HUGE profit. Then again, i'm not too surprised by that. Think about the 3 guys behind the film. James Wan and Leigh Whannel, the guys who created the first Saw and Oren Peli, the guy who created the first Paranormal Activity. Both huge hits, both extremely profitable.

What has me, and others, a bit worried is the idea that both Saw and PA became franchises after their big splash. Is Insidious headed down that same road? All signs point in that direction.
