The Spot News: At The Mountains Of Madness In Danger?

Filming was set to start in July 2011 under the control of director and writer Guillermo Del Toro but an interview between Del Toro and Deadline reveals that At The Mountains of Madness is at best delayed and at worst dead. The reason being that Universal can not support an expensive blockbuster ($150 million) that carries an R certificate due to its ‘intensity’.
Del Toro clearly was not to be shifted on that rating:
I think the R should be worn like a badge of merit in promoting the movie. To say, this is not a gory movie, not a movie full of profanity or violence, but it’s a really intense movie. It’s all what you do with what you’re given.

Guillermo Del Toro has had to turn his attention elsewhere. It has fallen on Pacific Rim, a science fiction movie in which humanity unites to defeat an alien menace. Pacific Rim is written by Travis Beacham (Clash and Wrath of the Titans)
