2011 is here/January Movie Releases

We hope everyone had a happy new year filled with lots of fun, health and marathons of good shows. If you missed it, and how dare you if you did, The Three Stooges and The Honeymooners both had marathons going on. Where were you?

Anyway, 2010 was great but we did enough talking about 2010. We gave you a whole damn lists of movies in 2010 that were great(and not so great). We don't want to talk about the past anymore and i'm sure you don't want to hear about it either.

So 2011 is here! With movies that look a lot more promising than this past year, let's hope they deliver.

Robert Acosta:
January is usually not a strong month for movies. Sorry if I sound like a broken record player but it's true. At the very most, only solid films come out of January, but even that can prove to be rare. This month is shaping up to be like the Januaries of old.

The first week isn't looking too strong(no pun intended) with Season of the Witch and Country Strong being released. Can Nicolas Cage do any right? And Country Strong is looking to be OK, maybe a good story, some good music, but nothing more. Look for a review of Country Strong by the end of next week.

The second week is really looking like the meat of the month, the week that may produce the better movies of the month. I'm not going to say that Green Hornet was my most anticipated movie but i'm definitely looking forward to catching it. Expecting a big performance from Seth Rogen. Also, The Dilemma looks like it could be the first good comedy of the year but i've been wrong before.

In the third week we have a Rom-Com featuring Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher. This just had fail written all over it but Portman is riding a huge wave into 2011, so maybe it could be good. Wishful thinking.

I don't have much to say about the last week of January. Movies like The Rite and The Mechanic have seemingly slipped under the radar and dumped onto the last week of a terrible month for movies. See them at your own expense.

Jose Diaz:
Happy New Year.

2011 is upon us and with it a rather dull listing of movies. January is considered the coldest and darkest month but the movies shouldn’t reflect that. But alas it does.

There are only two movies released that would maybe put butts into theaters. The Green Hornet starring Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Christoph Waltz, Cameron Diaz, Edward James Olmos, Tom Wilkinson. Movie of the classic series starring Bruce Lee. Looks good and I have been hearing positive things about it so it should end up being the hit of the month.

Then there’s Season of The Witch starring Nicolas Cage, Ron Perlman, Ulrich Thomsen, Christopher Lee. Witch/devil hunters have to save or kill a girl who is accused of being a witch. Medieval setting, supernatural story, Ron Perlman, and Cage’s hairdo. I mean I wouldn’t mind catching this but I am not going out of my way to see it.

The rest of the month is as dreary and barren as January is supposed to be so consider these two movies to be the money makers and the continued dominance of the December releases. At least we will save money this month. Here’s hoping that February has a better selection.
