Review: Most people are starting to dislike the found footage type of movie now. I think it's because too many movie producers are using it now. Honestly, I love them. I think they add an element of realism to it, even in the case of Chronicle where these things are unbelievable, you can sort of see it happening in real life.

Chronicle isn't a long movie, not even reaching the 90 minute standard that most movies come in nowadays. But what it manages to do in the 83 minutes it does run is put together a nice action, science fiction film. Doesn't feel terribly short, doesn't feel rushed, it feels like one fluid story.

The story is somewhat innovative in the sense that you don't see these kind of movies all the time. Of course, there is some lack of explanation and judging by the ending, we may or may not see a sequel. For instance, you see how they get their superpowers, but no why. A sequel would have to touch on that.

The main three actors in the film are relatively young, unknowns, other than Michael B Jordan who has certainly been around. That's certainly another aspect to the film of making this believable, not having these A list actors on screen, but rather having people who look like they actually could come across some superpowers.

In terms of entertainment and action, there is enough to go around. The last 25 minutes really bumped this movie up in my eyes. Not to say that the first 60 minutes were lacking action or anything, but there was more story and buildup to the ending done in those 60 minutes and everything seemingly exploded in the last 25 minutes.

All of the stunts they pull off in the film look pretty good, even believable really. All the stuff you see in the trailer, the flying, car moving, teddy bear dancing stuff that the kids make happen with their powers all look even better on screen.

I don't wanna say too much about ending, or characters fates, but I do believe everything is not what it seems when it comes to these supernatural type movies. While the ending doesn't completely suggest a 2nd movie is coming, the movie has made it's budget back and then some in the box office, and that more than anything is the tell tale sign of a possible sequel.

Chronicle was certainly more action packed and over the top than I expected, and that's a good thing. A very good Science Fiction flick that should be seen to believed.

Rating: 4 out of 5
