Oliver Jackson-Cohen as Killer

Plot: An ex-con goes on a killing spree, seeking revenge for his troubled brother.

Review: Finally, The Rock(And yes I know that legally is not a part of his name anymore, but I refuse to call him anything else) has come back to action movies! Is it a good return? Well let's not get too far ahead of ourselves.

The movie starts out with The Rock, in jail, getting out of jail and with no hesitation, on the hunt for the men who killed his brother. One by one, he picks off all the people involved in very gruesome but mostly similar ways. You got guns, knifes, ice picks and an OK car chase, but nothing special.

Like is the problem with most action movies, logic seems to go out the window. Police, for some reason, seem to get more forgetful and lose all their training. And that, like all those other action movies, is where this movie falls flat on its face.

The action is there, and it's both good and amusing. But damn, people are just stupid in this movie. How cops could never actually catch The Rock, how the cops don't even know or bother to check if someone on the inside has anything to do with this whole situation. Cause that plot seems to happen more often than not nowadays.

The acting is a bit loose, on almost all ends. Billy Bob Thornton is a real veteran so his performance is passable but even has these awkward moments.

I know, action movies like this always end up failing just because they're so comical. Comical in a bad way, in a way where the movie should not be funny. Taking it a little more seriously, a little more effort could have really helped this movie.

Even though i'm happy The Rock made a return to action movies, I wish effort was put in and time was devoted to making this movie actually enjoyable. For this Thanksgiving weekend, avoid this at all costs and go check out Love & Other Drugs.

Rating: 1.5 out of 5
