Review: This is what happens when Judd Apatow gets a hold of a movie. He turns it into comedic gold. The producer of great comedies like 40 year old virgin, Step Brothers, Pineapple Express, Funny People, Anchorman, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story and much much more. Yet, Forgetting Sarah Marshall may be his best.
Jason Segal is already featured at number 4 on the greatest comedies in recent years list with his role in I Love You, Man but this is the role that will define him. Other than How I Met Your Mother that is. This is the role where he just seems natural in, owns it and takes over the movie.
Though don't be mistaken, he's not alone in this great comedy. You have the beautiful, sexy, yet strikingly funny women in Mila Kunis and Kristen Bell. You have small roles/cameos from the always funny Bill Hader and Paul Rudd. And of course, you have the internationally funny Russell Brand. It's like the B list of comedy, thrown together to make this hilarious movie.
I'm not gonna lie, i'm a big fan of movies with some drama in them. Especially comedies than can mix both laughs and thought. Forgetting Sarah Marshall definitely packs both in its arsenal, which makes it one of the better comedies in the last 10 years. You have opening scenes where Peter has a surprise(and a lack of clothing) for his girlfriend Sarah Marshall and then later on in the film you have this heart felt argument between the two on why it all fell apart.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall is extremely well done, as more than just a comedy. It has both moments of comedy and sorrow mixed in with a happy ending and rarely do comedies pull that off in a way that works. That is why Forgetting Sarah Marshall is the runner up on the greatest comedies in recent years list.
