Horror Spot: Paranormal Activity 2 Review

Plot:

After experiencing what they think are a series of "break-ins", a family sets up security cameras around their home, only to realize that the events unfolding before them are more sinister than they seem.

Review:

Since we have already reviewed this movie I will be brief and also since it has been out for a week I will be going into details about the movie so If you want to avoid spoilers reader beware.

So the sequel to one of the best ghost horror movies of last year is shockingly a welcome and terrifying addition to the first movie. Yes we essentially get the same movie as before but it is presented in such a different manner that you should not be too turned off by it. The “camera” in which the audience views the events are static security cameras with a handheld camera for various scenes. Giving us the viewers a different perspective on the family and what they go through.

Now on to something that was touched upon by the other review. The movie builds upon itself creating tense and scary moments that as the movie comes to an end leaves you shocked and scared out of your mind. But it is a slow burn approach. Not a scare every two seconds. I love movies like that. I want to see a build up of scares until the final moments in where the movie unleashes everything at you. In which Paranormal Activity 2 delivers.

Story wise Paranormal Activity 2 is similar to the first one but here is where the kicker comes in. This family that we are seeing tormented, the wife in fact, is the sister to Katie. Yes the same Katie from the first movie. And guess what Micah is in here too. Alive and well.

But what the hell is going on? Your probably asking. Well it seems that Paranormal Activity 2 takes place before the events of the first. What we are seeing is the events that lead up to the first movie and gives the reason why Katie and Micah were tormented and killed and possessed. Really great job in bridging both movies together and creating a perfect little continuity to the movies. There is also a nice twist at the end in which we see where the possessed Katie went after she killed Micah. It will leave you speechless out and wondering what will happen next.

Final Thoughts:

Overall Paranormal Activity was great and complimented the original movie without watering it down like other sequels have before.
