It's being reported that Edward Norton isn't coming back to play The Hulk in the upcoming Avengers movie.
Is this exactly bad news? Not completely. Ed Norton did a pretty good job as Bruce Banner, much better than Eric Bana did anyway. It would have been alright to have him in but I personally am not too worried.
Apparently Marvel has already created a small list of actors to possibly take on the role with the most interesting name being Joaquin Phoenix. At first, just by looks, I was a big skeptical. Over the last couple hours of pondering the idea, it's not so bad. Phoenix is not a bad actor at all, very enjoyable. Could he handle a big part like Bruce Banner in a widely anticipated movie like The Avengers? I'm not too sure.
What does get to me is that it seems like Norton is the only one being taken out and replaced, almost without any consideration of him being in the Avengers movie. So that seems a little crazy and unfair.
Another valid point that I've been hearing is that, if they do in fact replace Ed Norton as The Hulk in the Avengers, does this mean The Hulk movies are being rebooted for a 3rd time? It's rare to see the main character of a film series be re-cast without it being rebooted. That would be my real problem with replacing Norton, a 3rd reboot of the Hulk series within the last like 7 years.
