Vampire Diaries - Small Screen Review
Vampire Diaries - Small Screen Review
Episode 3 Review
Ah a flashback episode. Nice way to establish what a mean killer Stefan was. Eating and killing his way through Chicago. But that is not all. Seems that he met Klaus during his time in Chicago. Not only Klaus but also his sister Rebecca (Claire Holt). So while searching for a super powerful witch named Gloria (Charmin Lee) who might be able to explain why Klaus wasn’t able to create more half-breeds last week we get the flashbacks.
Things appeared to go smoothly for awhile until a mysterious assailant popped up to kill, Klaus and Rebecca causing Klaus to compel Stefan to forget they ever met. So imagine Stefan’s surprise when he learns that he used to be super chummy with the guy he was trying to outrun all of last season. After talking things over with Gloria to figure out why breaking the curse didn’t seem to work the way Klaus had hoped, she reveals that they’ll need to contact the witch who created the original curse. This witch is obviously long dead so in order to talk with her Gloria will need a little help and said help can come from Rebecca.
Since they had to wait for her to awaken from her stabbing (Klaus staked her to protect her from getting killed) we then get shunted to Damon getting a call from Katharine telling him to find Stefan in Chicago. He brings Elena with him to try and bring Stefan back. After a close call at Stefan’s old apartment he and Elena finally meet and he tell her to move one and not to waste her time trying to bring him back and save him. We then learn that Rebecca had a necklace they, Klaus and Stefan, needed in order to contact the long dead witch. Had being the key word since we were shown that it broke off in Chicago long ago. But we know that that same necklace is now around Elena’s neck. Given to her by good Stefan. Uh oh.
Caroline gets tortured by her father, who is attempting to associate pain with vampirism. So Caroline won’t feed anymore. Her father uses direct sunlight to burn her. Thankfully her mom and Tyler find her and save her.
Sadly no Matt And Jeremy this episode. I really wanted to see more ghost stuff between them. Until next week then.
The Secret Circle - Small Screen Review
The Secret Circle - Small Screen Review Review- Episode 3
So our group of six have bound their powers. Now they don’t have any power unless they are with each other. Faye hates it and is having a hard time. The whole episode she is attempting to find a way to regain her individual powers back, With no luck. We also finally get a little more story with Melissa and Nick. Bad boy Nick wants the sex and nothing else. Melissa on the other hand wants him as her boyfriend. She wants that love and connection. Thank you for doing something with her. I felt she was the crappy sixth member that had nothing going for her. And look at that Faye is human. Telling off Nick and telling him that Melissa likes him. To treat her better or screw off. Drop his damaged bad boy attitude.
Oh and look at this, some mysterious character from the parents past is back and wanting to get revenge by killing one of the kids. He has a connection to Cassie’s mom. Supposedly her mother did something to his girlfriend, Heather, and he wants revenge. And since he knows about the bound powers he states that all he has to do is kill one of the six to hurt them. He almost succeeds during the high school dance. But the six come together to deal with him. They lie about what happened to Dawn and later we see her and Charles mark the guy and warn him to stay away or he will suffer. Not bad of an episode. Wished some one of the six would have gotten hurt to add in more tension. I still have a feeling that Diana has some other motive behind the binding of their powers. It just screams out at me.

Basically giving up and watching over a breaking Sam the trio go about there business and carefully try to figure how to stop the god like Castiel. While that is happening Castiel is going around and smiting and killing off all that he deems wrong and evil. But we slowly see that his angelic body can’t handle the strain and power and it seems something is trying to get out or take control. Soon the boys find a way to stop Castiel, which entails binding Death himself to reap Castiel.
Soon after summoning Death; Sam, Dean, and Bobby get into a situation that is way above their heads. Death even reveals that Sam’s physic wall is crumbling and he is suffering from hallucinations. Castiel frees Death and leaves. Death then reveals that they need to get Castiel to return the souls to Purgatory that night before the souls of the leviathans take control or get out and wreck havoc on earth again. They manage to get Castiel to return the souls. But the fractured Sam sees Lucifer who tells him that he can’t trust anything or anyone. Sam believes him, like an idiot and disappears. So after return the souls Castiel heals himself and all seems well until something happens and he reveals that the leviathans held on and are now fighting to take over his body. They do and the episode ends.
Can’t freaking wait until this weeks episode! What will the leviathans do now? Where is Sam? Is Lucifer really there and trying to take over Sam again?

Comedies: Fall 2011 - Small Screen Review
Comedies: Fall 2011 - Small Screen Review
I talked to my fellow writer/boss Robert on how I would review comedies for the Small Screen. I mean I can’t just say “Funny”. Following episode: “Funnier”. So I am just going to talk about all the new and returning comedies in one article.
The Middle, Modern Family, and Raising Hope return for new seasons and are, to me, hilarious and after seeing the season premieres and then this weeks episodes just proves that. The New Girl is good too. Zooey Deschanel, Max Greenfield, and the rest of the cast work great together. And Zooey is hilarious in her awkwardness.
Suburgatory is another new show that started this week and it was a good one too. Single father George only wants the best for his 16-year-old daughter, Tessa. So when he finds a box of condoms on her nightstand, he moves them out of their apartment in New York City to a house in the suburbs. But all Tessa sees is the horror of over-manicured lawns, plastic Franken-moms, and fake-evil teenagers. I can’t forget to mention Big Bang Theory and Glee. Even though Glee is a mix of drama and comedy.
Overall these have been the standout comedy shows this season and I can’t wait to laugh some more.
Terra Nova - Small Screen Review
Terra Nova - Small Screen Review
Plot:
Centers on the Shannons, an ordinary family from 2149 when the planet is dying who are transported back 85 million years to prehistoric Earth where they join Terra Nova, a colony of humans with a second chance to build a civilization.
Episodes One and Two:
Going to try to review this differently that the previous Small Screen entries. I don’t want to regurgitate the whole show back into these articles. I am reviewing them so I should just straight into if it was good or not, or if I will continue to watch it.
With that said, Terra Nova is exactly as you would think it supposed to be. A new take on Jurassic Park. And that is not a bad thing.
Take it like this: Instead of a humans building a park and recreating dinosaurs; humans are going back in time and building housing/civilization among dinosaurs. The show works. I found nothing really bad with it. I wonder if they are seriously able to keep up the cost of the show for more than one season though. Thankfully the show is focusing on the human side of things. Throwing some dinos here and there. Adding another rouge human element. And poking at a mysterious, maybe alien subplot.
Overall a good start to a new show. Let’s see how it unfolds.

Cast:
Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Adam
Seth Rogen as Kyle
Anna Kendrick as Katherine
Bryce Dallas Howard as Rachael
Plot: 27 year old Adam goes through a dramatic life change when he finds out he has cancer.
Review: 50/50 is a very risky movie. It's a very dangerous movie on a touchy subject, that being cancer. Only the right people could truly pull this movie off. Well, luckily for the cast and crew of 50/50, and the rest of the world for that matter, they got the right people on this movie.
In 50/50 you follow a young man by the name of Adam, who is in a relationship with a smoking hot girl named Rachael, played by the wonderful Bryce Dallas Howard, and it's apparent early that there is something up with this relationship. He also has a best friend in Seth Rogen who plays very much the same role he's been playing his whole career, being the "raunchy" best friend/sidekick, but very caring nonetheless. When Adam is told he has a form of spinal cancer, his relationship with Rachael crumbles and even his friendship with Kyle (Rogen) changes completely. The one thing he does get out of all this is a beautiful, rookie therapist, Katherine (played by Anna Kendrick).
What makes 50/50 great is that it can take the cancer side of the story very seriously. Never at one point will you feel that they are making fun of the disease, or making fun of having it. In fact, I feel like this story could be something of a pick me up for someone with cancer. They respect the process, all while lightening it up. When Gordon-Levitt has to shave his head, he does so with Rogen's body trimmer (highlighted in the trailer). When Gordon-Levitt goes through chemotherapy, he meets these two old men with cancer who couldn't be funnier and lighthearted given their conditions.
And the comedy is actually funny, and that had to be a given if this movie was any type of good. A comedy about cancer and it's not funny ends up being a tremendous flop, luckily that isn't the case. Gordon-Levitt does a good job of balancing the serious moments with the comedic ones and playing both of them very well. Rogen just seems to be around for some comedic effect, as usual. The acting overall was very good, and I can't get enough of Anna Kendrick. If she stopped doing stupid movies like everything in the Twilight series and more of 50/50 and Scott Pilgrim, she'd be my main woman.
It's a special movie, that needs to be seen, by non cancer patients and cancer patients alike, everyone does a great job with it.
Rating: 4.5 out of 5
Coming Soon: 50/50
Coming Soon: 50/50
Plot: Inspired by personal experiences, 50/50 is an original story about friendship, love, survival and finding humor in unlikely places. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen star as best friends whose lives are changed by a cancer diagnosis. Rogen also serves as producer, along with Evan Goldberg and Ben Karlin. Jonathan Levine directs from a script by Will Reiser.
50/50 is the story of a guy’s transformative and, yes, sometimes funny journey to health. 50/50 draws its emotional core from Will Reiser’s own experience with cancer and reminds us that friendship and love, no matter what bizarre turns they take, are the greatest healers.

Now, some people bash the hell out of this series. To all the bashers: Oh just shut up already. Of course it's not scary to you. You're looking at it from the outside looking in. The real art of movies is being able to put yourself in a movie and imagine that whatever is happening on screen is happening to you. But of course in this day and age, that is a lost art.

Britt Robertson (Cassie Blake), Thomas Dekker (Adam Conant), Phoebe Tankin (Faye Chamberlain), Jessica Parker Kennedy (Melissa), Louis Hunter (Nick Armstrong), Shelley Hennig (Diana Meade), Gale Harold (Charles Meade), Natasha Henstridge (Dawn, Chamberlain)
Review- Episode 1
We open this new series, with ties to Vampire Diaries, with the death of the main characters (Cassie) mother by a mysterious magic using baddie. Fast forward a couple weeks or so and Cassie moves in with her Grandmother in the old town her mom and dad used to live in, New Salem. Here she starts school as the new girl. But not everything is as it seems. Before leaving her room, her moms old room. She looks out her window and sees her neighbor, shirtless too, staring at her. At school she notices a couple of people looking at her, making her uncomfortable. She gets help with her locker from Faye. Diana soon introduces herself and tells her to go to this hangout place by the pier. Soon after she makes I there and meets another kid, Adam, who works at the place since his dad runs it. She leaves soon after Faye and Melissa stop by and tell her a bunch of weird things and just act rather creepy and bitchy. Faye then reveals herself to us by messing with Cassie’s car. Cassie panics and her own powers mix with Faye’s and the car gets set on fire. Adam saves her.
The episode goes on and soon Cassie is meeting the other main five characters. Adam, Faye, Melissa, Nick (her neighbor), and Diana. They tell Cassie that they are witches and that the six together, the new generation, are a Circle. Diana keeps mentioning that since they are finally together they need to bind their powers so they won’t get out of control. Of course the bitching Faye shoots the idea down, wanting to keep her individual powers. This soon leads to Cassie to run off while Adam follows. They stop in a field and Adam shows Cassie the power they have by floating a drop of water from a leaf. Yet once the camera pans out we see how powerful they now are, the whole area they are in is surrounded by drops of water.
Towards the end we see Faye testing out her powers by summoning a huge storm. She looses control and can’t stop it. While the storm rages on Cassie and Diana come by and finally Cassie is able to stop it. Soon back at her room Cassie finds her mothers grimoir/ spell book and a letter from her mom to be careful. Oh and Diana’s father is Charles, who so happens to be the killer of Cassie’s mother!
Review - Episode 2
I have to admit the first episode wasn’t as exciting as it could have been. But considering it is a new series it is expected. Thankfully the second episode gives us some more information and story to finally see where The Secret Circle may be headed. After the events of the first episode Diana is trying desperately to make the Circle bind themselves. Basically sounding like a broken record and giving the impression that she wants to do this on purpose or a malicious reason. Nick and Faye don’t want to, while Melissa seems to be the sucker of the group and goes along what Faye and Nick say. Adam is indifferent about it but will agree with his girlfriend Diana says.
The episode takes a bit of a twist when Faye’s grandfather stops by and tells her mother Dawn that he is here on business. Which makes Dawn seek out Charles and demands he give back the crystal. Since it holds a limited amount of their power. Which was stripped from them years ago after the deaths of their husbands and wives. Which is why the new six have dead parents, either a mother or father. Or in Nick’s case both his parents, and now Cassie both of hers.
Later on Faye bitches up again and accidentally kills a student who was trying to talk to Cassie. Dawn then jumps down and uses the crystal to revive her. But her father in law sees it and confronts Dawn about it. He tells her that the kids or practicing magic and that they need to watch them and stop them before they bind their powers. Which, according to what he said would be dangerous for them to do. Telling Dawn that he will go to the elders and that he wants the crystal to get rid of it. Dawn proceeds to give her father in law a heart attack.
At the end of the episode, the six meet up to bind their powers. Considering how dangerous they are individually, especially Faye the idiotic bitch. But what we get as previews for next week was exciting. Since they are de-powered now, unless they are together, seems someone is after them to kill them.
Vampire Diaries - Small Screen Review
Vampire Diaries - Small Screen Review
Episodes 1 and 2 Review
Forgive the lateness, I just wanted to make sure that The Secret Circle was going to be good enough to review. And since it comes on right after VD I pushed both first episode reviews back a week.
Main Cast:
Nina Dobrev (Elena Gilbert), Paul Wesley (Stefan Salvatore), Ian Somerhalder (Damon Salvatore), Steven R McQueen (Jeremy Gilbert), Zach Roerig (Matt Donovan), Michael Trevino (Tyler Lockwood), Candice Accola (Caroline Forbes), Joseph Morgan (Klaus), Matthew Davis (Alaric Saltzman)
Review - Episode 1
So we begin where we left off. Stefan is still with Klaus and reverted to his old savage, “ripper” ways. While Klaus seems to be hunting werewolves. Back at Mystic Falls, Elena is celebrating her birthday. Alaric has been staying with the Gilbert kids since what happened last season. Damon is still Damon. And Jeremy is working with Matt at the bar/grill. But it seems that since Jeremy was resurrected he is seeing ghosts.
Now that the little summary is over I can begin with the review. Obviously we are going to be seeing our cast searching for both Klaus and Stefan. And we will be seeing what exactly Klaus wants with Stefan and what he is after. Along the way we seem to be getting a ghost story between Jeremy and Matt, as they get closer in their friendship. Along with the odd but budding relationship between Caroline and Tyler. Now being the first episode all we got was the beginnings of the new story and character arcs and the continuation of last seasons cliffhanger. And so far Vampire Diaries season three has me excited to see what unfolds this season. Especially with Stefan reverting back to a monster while keeping his humanity and love for Elena intact. While Klaus seems to be trying to create some new vampire/werewolf hybrids like himself.
Review - Episode 2
All I am going to say is that Elena is nosy and doesn’t know when to get help and likes to get herself into trouble. That is basically half the episode. She finds out where Stefan and Klaus could be and gets Tyler to map it out for her. She enlists Alaric to help here find the place. Meanwhile Tyler is looking for Caroline since she disappeared after they hooked up last episode. Seems his mother is trying to deal with that on here own.
Klaus finds his wolf pack and proceeds to try and turn them all. Now here is what I like about Vampire Diaries. Klaus fangs up before a commercial and if you look carefully at his mouth you can see that they gave him double fangs. A set of vampire fangs along with a set of werewolf fangs. So he pops out four sharp fangs instead of the normal two. Badass I have to say. And his eyes are a mix of gold and red.
So Elena and Alraic are searching the woods and Damon makes an appearance at the behest of Alaric, surprising Elena. They soon meet up with a werewolf that escaped from Klaus and witness him transforming during the day. They run off only for Damon to get caught up fighting the new wolf/vamp hybrid. Stefan runs in and kills the wolf saving his brother. Telling Damon to run and keep Elena safe and away. Stefan returns to Klaus and sees all the turned hybrids dead all over the camp area. Klaus tells him that the process failed. Some died, or bled out. Some he had to kill himself. He wonders why his plan to make a powerful hybrid army failed. That he belives he did everything that was told of him to do. Kill a vampire, a werewolf, and a doppelganger. Breaking the curse and allowing him to create other like him. Well we know that he didn’t kill the doppelganger since Elena is alive and well. He cures Stefan’s wolf bite and they move off somewhere else.
Meanwhile Matt and Jeremy are trying to contact Matt’s dead sister, who has appeared to Jeremy asking for help and telling him that they can bring her back to life. Soon after Jeremy’s ex-vampire dead girlfriend appears and tell him not to believe Vicki. Some crazy shit right there haha. The episode ends with Caroline tied up to a chair screaming for help only for the man that Tyler’s mother called to help get rid of her to show up. Well Caroline then cries out “dad?” before the show ended. Which leaves us wonder what the hell? And anxiously waiting for next week.

Drive Movie Review
Drive Review
By Jose
Plot:
A Hollywood stunt-driver (Ryan Gosling), who moonlights as a getaway driver, falls for a young mother- Irene (Carey Mulligan), whose husband, Standard (Oscar Issacs) has just gotten out of jail. When Irene and her son are threatened, the driver and Standard are forced to pull off a daring daytime robbery. When the job goes south, the driver finds himself in the cross-hairs of a mobster (Ron Perlman) and his vicious associate (Albert Brooks).
Cast:
Carey Mulligan, Ryan Gosling, Ron Perlman, Christina Hendricks, Bryan Cranston, Albert Brooks
Review:
I could not imagine myself fully enjoying a car/action movie for more than being just that. Yet Drive went beyond that and then some.
We are thrown into the life of a stunt car driver (Gosling) who also lends his talents as a getaway driver. Who falls for Irene (Mulligan) and her young son. And gets involved in a heist that goes horribly wrong. You would think that just by reading that it sounds like Drive is a typical action movie. But it is not. It is how Drive unfolds on the screen and the interactions between the cast is what makes Drive a great movie.
The opening credits are pink and the music is reminiscent of the 80’s pop music scene. Gosling’s nameless characters scorpion jacket and driver gloves exudes this coolness. But it is his quietness that speaks volumes. He speaks little yet you pay attention to each word. You end up just watching him and his face and eyes. Once he meets Irene, played by the wonderful Carey Mulligan, we see him loosen up a bit. But not by much. He and Irene share the quiet moments or looking at each other and driving together. Slight touches here and there. What many would consider awkward silence screams out. No words are needed. We understand and fill in the dialogue in our heads, even though it is not needed. Gosling’s character is very noble and respectful to Irene and her son and also to his down on his luck boss played by Bryan Cranston. It is not until a bit into the movie where we see another side of our Drives character.
It starts at a diner where a man comes up to our the Driver and starts talking about a previous getaway. Gosling just looks up from eating his pie and flat out threatens the guy, telling to walk away before getting his teeth kicked down his throat. And here is where we start to see the other more violent side of our Driver. Once the heist goes wrong and he sees himself set up to take a huge fall our Driver takes the initiative to seek out to fix it. But after a failed attack in a hotel room, where our hero stabs and guy with a shower rod and then proceeds to shoot the other with a shotgun, it will not be as easy. The Driver visit’s a strip club with a hammer and then smashes the hand of a lackey to get information and makes him swallow the bullet that was given as a threat to Irene’s young son.
There is a scene in a elevator where we see both sides of the Drivers character in full force and done so damn well. He is attempting to tell Irene what is happening and what she should do when they enter the elevator and there is a man there that was sent to kill Irene and her son. The Driver realizes this and what happens next it truly some great film making. Gosling’s character moves his arm back and guides Irene behind him and over. He looks back and turn to face her and kisses her passionately. They stop, look in each others eyes. He turns and then attacks the guy. He then gets him to the ground and proceeds to smash his head in with his foot. Love transitioning into violence in fluid motion. It was so great to see.
I want to mention how great Albert Brooks was playing the villain. He did a great job with it too. It was a normal psychotic villain either. Just a normal bad guy who would do anything to protect what is his. Stabbing and killing the mechanic and then later trying to kill our Driver. Brooks did a great job. Also the music needs to be mentioned again because it was so good. It fit the movie and became a character on it’s own.
Final Thoughts:
Drive is not your typical movie and I am glad that it wasn’t. It was better than that. The Driver was an amazing character brought to life by the incredible Ryan Gosling. Then you add the quietness and silence that left you depending on just the characters interactions and looks and touches. And then the soundtrack. Great and truly well done movie.
Ratings: 5 out of 5

Actor Ryan Gosling has spent 18 years building a respectable acting career. This year sees him appearing in leading roles in Drive and The Ides of March, and quite frankly he’s getting sick of all this praise, money, and fame being thrown at him just for doing something he enjoys.
According to an interview with The Times, he’s getting ready to quit … maybe … at some indefinite point in the future … depending on a range of variables.
It’s been hot news.
I’ve been doing this since I was 12… I don’t want to act much longer; I can’t do one thing my whole life. I know there are only so many characters I’ll be able to play. It will be over whenever the inspiration dries up.

On the official Ghostbusters Facebook page it was announced that the classic 80s comedy will be making its return to the big screen sometime next month.
Of course, it will be digitally remastered, though I don't think it will be given the 3D conversion (Thank god!)

Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams) is a brilliant college dropout. Mike's childhood dreams of becoming a lawyer are crushed after uncontrollable situations, including having to care for his beloved grandmother, lead him to drop out of college. Naturally intelligent and with an eidetic memory, Mike makes a living taking tests for other people, particularly LSATs.
During the first episode we meet his friend Trevor Evans (Tom Lipinski),Mike's drug-dealing best friend. Trevor begs him to help with a big delivery. Mike is reluctant to do it but agrees. Things obviously go wrong and Mike finds himself at a job search. A lawyer job search. There he meets Harvey Specter.
Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) is one of New York City's top attorneys who has recently been promoted to senior partner at his firm, and is forced by company policy to hire an associate. After an accidental interview with Mike, Harvey is impressed by the younger man's quick wits, his encyclopedic knowledge of the law, and his genuine desire to be an attorney, and hires him. Due to the fact that Mike lacks a law degree, and because the firm prefers Harvard alumni, they both pretend that Mike is a Harvard graduate.
At the firm, Mike is continuously hounded by junior partner Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman),
a rival of Harvey's who is suspicious of Mike's credentials. Mike is eventually befriended by Rachel (Meghan Markle), a paralegal, whose testing anxiety has prevented her from becoming a lawyer, and the two soon develop a mutual attraction. Mike and Harvey often come into conflict over Mike's naivete and ethical scruples and Harvey's hard charging and seemingly uncaring demeanor.
That is pretty much the show in a nutshell. It sounds boring, I know. But I gave it a shot and really enjoyed this show. The witty banter between Harvey and Mike made this show for me. The constant back and forth, trying to one up the other, and trying to beat each other was hilarious and brought a lot of tension to the season. The law firm itself is home to a lot of the hijinks and drama especially when you add in Louis, Donna (Sarah Rafferty) Harvey's secretary, and Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres) Harvey's boss and managing and founding partner of Pearson Hardman.
Another overall arc to the show is will someone find out the truth about Mike and what would happen to him and Harvey. Many episodes dealt with this issue. And at one point Rachel finds out but decides to keep Mike's secret. A couple of other episodes we see what could happen to Mike if he is found out but we see it through the actions of another. The firm finds out that an important and priceless accountant lied on his resume and was essentially thrown out and almost sued horribly. In another episode we see a clients daughter threaten to reveal Mike's secret only to help him out later and hack into Harvard and deliver an authentic degree and records for Mike.
The season finale was actually pretty good. We see Harvey deal with past problems while working as assistant District Attorney. Trying to clear the name of a guy he helped convict for a murder. He succeeds the way that the team of Harvey and Mike always do. But at a cost. Throughout the season Mike's drug dealer friend almost cost him his life twice. In the finale Trevor finds out Mike has been going out with his ex girlfriend. Trevor then heads to the law firm and the season ends with him talking to Jessica Pearson about Mike. Leaving us hanging until next summer.
Overall Suits was a welcome new show to watch during the summer show season. It is as good as White Collar and Royal Pains. And seriously, I can't wait until the new season starts.
